Augusta, Georgia, MCA Grand National Show, Labor Day Weekend

TheMustangSource.com is sponsoring the 2005 Mustang (Driven) class at the Southern Exposure 2007 Grand National Mustang Show on Labor Day Weekend in Augusta, Georgia.

I'll have PSH there (in a different class) and would love to meet up with any TMS members that plan on going. Anyone up for a Friday or Saturday night TMS get-together?

Brad - Looking forward to checking out your car. Hopefully the weather forecast is wrong (90% rain Friday/50% Saturday)

It's eight days away. That forecast is absolutely worthless.

Events for the show

Hey ya'll,

We plan on having a cruise across the Savannah River to the Sno-Cap Drive-In, located in N. Augusta, SC on Friday night. There will be a live band. We are cruisng from the Civic Center (James Brown Arena) and will cruise through downtown Augusta to I-20 to North Augusta. Hopefully ya'll will attend. We are planning a big shindig.

If you have never been to the Saturday night event, you should really try to attend. Everyone has a lot of fun. Check out the details at www.csramc.org Advance tickets for Saturday night's event are required.

Any questions, just ask me. I'll answer them the best I can.

Looks like PSH and I will be staying in Birmingham. I went to the 2002 Grand National in Charlotte in the rain. I think I'll stay here at watch Nick Saban's Alabama coaching debut.

Who are you looking for? I can find out who is going to be there, but I don't have the list. Is there one in particular you are looking for?

As far as rain was concerned, you made the right call. Had a great time but it rained Friday night and after about one hour of judging on Saturday, it started raining (around 1pm) and kept coming on and off for the rest of the day. I think (?) they had around 375 cars entered.

Good call, but I was looking forward to seeing PSH. I was there on Saturday and there was a lot of rain. If they didn't have Mustangs inside it would have been a bust IMO.

There were very few vendors there or I missed them. I saw Ford Racing, Mustangs Unlimited, a couple Ford dealers, and a few smaller vendors. I have been to other MCA Grand Nationals and they were much bigger shows. Is the interest in the MCA or vintage Mustangs fading? I seem to hear a lot of stories about vintage Mustangers trading for S197's. Just curious. I was a bit disappointed there were not more Mustangs and vendors.

Don't be disappointed. MCA generally as a rule, only showcases 300-350 Judged cars per show. 375 was a good count. Any more it would be near impossible to fairly judge them all. Plus, add to that, all the concourse cars inside. Most of my fellow MCA members sporting the new S197, still hold dear to them their classic's. But it is more fun to actually get to drive to a show, than to trailer your classic. Most of them only display their other cars anyway at local event's. Your lucky, believe it or not, that you got rain. I was there in 2003 (I think) with my 99 35th GT. The heat melted my rear fascia. Pulled a second place, and got my car, trailer, & New Heritage F-150 Totalled on the way home in Philly, trying to make it to the RedSox Game there being made up on laborday. (trip sucked)

I've only been a MCA member for 2 years but have really enjoyed the 3 shows I've attended (Johnson City/06 and Louisville & Augusta this year). Louisville had almost 500 cars with a large number of vendors and since it was more centrally located, the current gas prices, etc were possibly less of a factor. While getting your car judged and possibly winning is good, its the interaction of the show participants which I look forward to. 99.9% of those I have met will help you anyway they can and where else can you have 3 days of Stang talk. When I first joined, I was told by a friend that unless you have a 64 1/2 -73 car you would be treated like a second class citizen. While I'm sure there are some who think this, I have had many from this group made me feel welcome and asked a ton of questions about my 05 and given positve comments

Very good show, even with the rain. The rain cooled things off and Sunday was a picture perfect day.

Like Ranger said, if you are only going to have your car judged you are missing out. The fellowship and information gained is priceless.
