You want competition?
#1
You got it. Sorta.
The Pontiac GTO MSRP is $32,495 according to their website.
However, in Houston anyway, at Gay Pontiac they have GTO for sale for, ready?
$27,998.
Saw that in the Chronicle ad today. Now, THAT might be competition... But it's ugly in the hiney. And needs hood scoops. And lightening. And split dual exhaust.

Think the dealership name has anything to do with the "lowered" price!

yeah it's pretty rough. every time i see someone driving around with the GAY pontiac tag on the back of their car i chuckle. i probably would have just gone with something like Pontiac of Houston, anything but that.
i still like the mustang, regardless of how inexpensive they make the GTO. yes it is a little higher in HP, but i think it's still fugly.

Okay, WAAAYY off topic here, but what's with the dealer tags on cars? I don't know of any dealers in the Seattle area that do it except for the plate frames, which I took off BEFORE I EVEN STARTED THE CAR to drive it off the lot :nono: . But I see cars from out of state with either stickers or actual badges of dealers on them. I'd be very angry if the dealer put thier garbage on my brand new car!
Anyone have any insight?

I have a sticker on the back of my 2000 GT, but when I ordered my 05 from the dealership that bought out that dealership, I specified that they are to do NOTHING to the car once it comes in except clean it/remove packing stuff. If they put some sort of badge on it the deal's off.
The salesman said he understood so hopefully there will be no problem... I will be really upset if after all this waiting I'll have to go elsewhere with my business and wait even longer! Especially if I've already managed to sell my 2000 GT first...

Personally I think if the dealer were to put a badge on my car. I would charge them the car payment each month for advertising.

Too bad Mr or Ms Gay doesn't own a Ford dealership.
You could get a Mustang with Gay Ford on your license
plate frame. That would look perfect on a Fiesta.....
or perhaps the Mustang replacement car: The Probe?

As for the GTO, the 2005 version will have split dual exhaust, a 400hp LS6 and offer functioning (sort of) hood scoops - pretty much addressing some, if not all, the whines about the current one. Can't do much about the somewhat bland styling, but then again, the original Le Mans GTO was no scintillating thing of beauty either.
Others have mentioned the Chrysler 300C RT (or whatever the full designation is) Coupe, with its 425hp 6.1 Hemi as competition too. While both it and the GTO may nip at the upper edges of Mustang sales, they are both fairly different cars -- much larger and luxurious, not to mention expensive - than the Stang GT. But then too, neither of these 400+ hp boomers ought to be ignored or written off either...

I myself dinna mind a license plate frame, but that's it. No stickers or badges. The license plate frame can always be removed. If I like the dealer, if they treated me good, hey, what's the fuss?
/still got Westpoint Lincoln Mercury frame on mine. Took off the stickerbadge though.

In Mass they have to ask permission first. I allowed them to put the badge on my Jetta (the gave me a great deal) but there's NO WAY I'll allow one on the Mustang. If they treat me right, I'll drive off the lot with a plate frame, but that's it.

My Mazda 6 only has a dealer license plate frame (which I haven't bothered to remove yet). When I bought my '95 Taurus SHO, I asked the dealer to not put a dealer badge on it but they did it anyway. I won't even shop that Ford dealer anymore. :notnice:

He's not making it up either. LMAO
I think you'd be hard pressed to go to a dealer that wouldn't do that. They want advertisement on their car man.
