Hello,
I've got a question for all you guys who've bought mustangs with the x-plan...
I've talked to two different dealers in regards to documentation fees
One said they can't charge them with an x-plan
The other said its $400 cdn.... and he tried to tell me its more than just a docu fee he said its some sort of insurance thing, if the car is stolen or w/e they pay the deductible?
Thoughts

Anything else with the X plan I should know??? Charges etc..

Thanks
Tom

Ford did drop the restriction on x-plan "additional" fees awhile back. I can't remember when exactly but it's been several months.

I printed out the x-plan FAQ's from the Ford website where I got my pin last week and it still states that a dealer cannot charge a documentation fee because it's a cost of doing business and it's not allowed under X-plan.

I showed it to my dealer and he removed a $50 doc fee.

My dealer was saying that is was a $399 cdn fee!!!
I also thought they can't charge it.... I definitely need to find out before I order it...that extra money would pay for my tinting or the stripes...

I called customer service once an asked, they basically said it depends on the dealer. They can charge whatever they want in terms of prep - regardless of what they call it.

Here is the info to report a dealer that violates the X-plan:

26. Can I be charged a “document fee†(doc fee) by my dealer?

No. Fees related to Partner Recognition Plan sales for document preparation or similar administrative services are not allowed. If the dealer charges you a documentary fee please call 1-800-348-7709 and report the issue. Sales under the Mazda S-Plan may be subject to document preparation and/or other administrative services fees. Please review all fees with your Mazda sales consultant and be sure you understand and agree prior to completing a sale.

I sent an email to Ford's x-plan administrator on 5/9/05 in regards to a change in the policy regarding documentation fees. This is a direct cut and paste from that the response that I received:

Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company on 05/9/05. We appreciate
the time you have taken to write us.

As of 25 April 2005, dealerships have been directed to charge additional
fees previously excluded under the AXZ plans; please request further
clarification regarding current plan pricing from your participating
dealership.

At Ford Motor Company, we consider the satisfaction of our customers as
one of our most important objectives. If you have any other inquiries
or concerns, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to
address them.

Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company.

Sincerely,
Marc

I just sent another email asking the question again. I'll post the response when I get it.

This is right out of our X-plan guide under FAQ's.

"May I charge a "document fee" or other added fees. Is this allowed?
No. Fees for document preparation or similar administrative services are not allowed"

This is a direct quote out of our x-plan guide:

The dealership may also NOT charge separately for document preparation or other administrative services incidental to the delivery of the vehicle. These expenses are considered to be part of the dealer's normal cost of doing business for which the dealership is compensated by the commission paid. For those living in states where state law requires dealers to assess fees on a vehicle purchase to all customers, dealers should indicate documentation fees have been paid by Ford Motor Company as part of the AXZD Program dealer reimbursement on the buyer's order.

This should settle ALL questions on whether "doc" fees are allowed.

How do you explain the email above from the x-plan administrators?
