wut is up with the outrageous prices on the cobras!!

i recently was goin to purchase the shelby gt500 and the dealer wanted to charge me $45,000 over price!!!! and when i said he was crazy and called around i found out the average price on a car that should only cost around $42,000 was going between $80,000 and $90,000!!!for that money i might as well buy a viper or a friggin ford gt...its just outrageous, and i couldn't see spending that kind of money on a mustang....im sorry, i love mustangs with a passion, but that is just rediculous........

This is the same thing that we saw when the 05 Mustang came out. Dealers are getting greedy and there are enough people out there who are willing to pay. (Or at least that is what some dealers hope for!)

I saw one in the showroom in my area. The salesman told me the dealership was probably going to hold an auction for it. I can't imagine what that Shelby will get.

My local dealership just sold a grey shelby last week. I will see if I can find out what it sold for when I go in next week for my new passenger side door panel that they scarred up with a screwdriver. I can't imagine that it was more than $52,000, since I had heard earlier that it was going to be 10 grand over when it came in

From threads on this site and others, it looks like the "add on" over MSRP is now in the $10-15K range overall and falling.
IMO by this time next year, its going to be MSRP or less. Alot of folks spending this kind of money are not Mustang fans but want to have the "first one on the block". When something else comes out, they will get that. Living in a pretty rural area, have seen two Shelby's at shows, both owners said they paid $5K over list. Not saying they were telling the truth but around these parts, thats alot.

I saw one a couple months ago at a dealership that sells Saleens. They wanted $80k for it (and it had a Sold sign on it). The dealership my car came from had a vert Shelby, $87k. Are they even numbered?

They will drop.

The gray convertable my local dealer had went at $65,000 from an out of state guy. He hired a flatbed dude to drive down here from Boston to pick it up. The guy had to stay overnight till the cashiers check cleared. They loaded it and took it away. It was on the showroom floor less than 2 weeks.

I blame Shelby. If SVT's name was on it, it would just be another "Terminator". I hope they stop making Shelby's, and give the reigns back to SVT.

PS I know SVT had a hand in the design, but it was Shelby's name that gave it it's rareness which equated to the high price tags, IMHO.

Which only provides further proof that people have more money than good sense

For that much, I'd go get a C6 Z06, then do a burn out in front of the Ford dealership.

The same thing happened back in late 02 when the 03 Cobras came out. The sad thing is (other than the fact people are paying a lot over sticker) that when these cars are a year old the will SERIOUSLY depreciate.

Look at the 03 Cobras, people were paying 5-10k over sticker and a year later they were selling for 28k because of the quantity built.

It'll be interesting to see what happens, but I don't think these will drop like the '03-'04s because of the Shelby name.
