Wiper Blade sizing - anyone use larger wiper blade for passenger side?

I measured the driver side to be 22" and the passenger side to be 20".
Has anyone used 22" for both or perhaps 24" for both?

Have you experienced chatter or excessive wiper movement (swept area goes outside the windshield at highway speeds)?

Just get the one's that are called for, and then there will be no concerns at all....that's what I'm gonna do when the time comes.

Just like my wife's Honda Accord. You end up buying 2 packages, so I throw the extras into the spare tire well until the next time.

I just installed Rain-X 24" on driver side and 20" on passenger side. They are the same size as my Windstar.

The driver's side calls for a 22" but the 24" blades is better, due to the less wiper miss between wipers on the windshield.

I installed Trico's Teflon Blades 15-200 for the passenger side and 15-220 for the driver's side. I was going to install their regular Trico Exact Fit...however, the 22-1 blade (Driver's side) doesn't have any holes in the blade (for high-speed runs) and their 20-1 blades does...wouldn't look right.

Mike, I don't know about putting on the 24s instead of the 22s...I guess as long as the wipers don't run into each other it should be fine. However, I would think that the longer blade would put more stress on the wiper motor (even if it's only a couple of inches).

It's not so much the length but the added weight of the 2" and 2" of water moving at that speed that the motors are not meant for

I decided to start driving my Stang in the rain and found the stock Motorcraft blades to work very nicely. That is the case for almost all rubber-based wiper blades for the first year, and then the sucking begins!

I ran a 2" larger wiper blade on my old Nissan Pickup. I had it on long enough to have to replace the blades at least once. I never had any problem with the wiper motor. Hope this helps

Thunder Road, I'll have to check out those Rain-X Lattitube...

gremlin 190 -- roger that (about the length difference)

metroplex -- I agree that the OEM Motorcraft blades are very nice...however, I believe they're about $25 apiece to replace, check with your dealer.

I still can't get used to the fact the wiper control is where the column shifters are usually located... LOL.

Duh, did you have to ask? They're used on the Shelby GT500, therefore they must be better!

well, THEY ARE. They are a euro style wiper, the "blade" style that does not use a metal frame to create the shape of the wiper, but actually a peice of rolled spring steel in the rubber blade itself. creates a few thousand points of pressure as apposed to 6 or 7 on a usual wiper. THey also have a small "spoiler" on the top to the blade to push it down towards the glass. I think some lincolns also use them. Got them from 05stangKC, Arms and wipers. quieter and they work better, dont skip.

Gee... so in other words you're saying that those 4 fewer ounces of weight add 5 RWHP!!!

i dont think they are lighter, just that as wipers they work better. not about speed of the car, its being able to see out of it

With the right windshield treatment, wiper blades aren't needed at high speeds. I found that even if you have the world's best wiper blades, they are useless in severe downpours. I found out firsthand how much Rain-X kicked a$$ on the highway. I was driving through PA with a friend (2 separate cars) and both our windshields were treated with Rain-X right before the trip. We hit a massive T-storm on I-80 and the few dozen cars around us all had to slow down to 20-30 mph. We kept our speed without using the wipers at all and I noticed that a trail of cars started following us (with their wipers on MAX). My guess is that all they saw was a sheet of water and some tail lights in front of them moving away rapidly...

Rain-X for t3h win (plus good wiper blades when there isn't enough air/wind to push the water away).

i have used rain-x before, and to be honest with the time that is lasts and the way that it makes my vision worse right after putting it on, and when it is on its way out.. i dont like using it that much. but for that couple weeks, you're so right

Cheese, you should try the washer fluid then. The effect never goes away because every time you clean your windshield with the fluid, it reapplies the treatment. Works great.
