Will 16" rims fit on a Mustang GT?

I'm about to go to a drifting school/event and was adviced to get a set of junkyard rims/tires for the rears, because we will probably get over an hour of track time.

The thing is, I haven't run into any affordable 17" rims.. (affordable = $100 for a pair including tires)

Can I fit a 16" rim on my wheel? I'm guessing 15" is out of the question, but that would make my search alot easier.

Thanks.

From my understanding the 16" rim will only fit in the rear. The rotors in the front are to big. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct, the front brakes of the GT have a bigger rotor and the 17" is the smallest wheel that will fit the front. Rear brakes are the same size between V6 and V8.

Yep... I remember going through this thread years ago when they first came out...specifically about a 16" winter steely.

Won't clear unfortunately. 17+ only

Thanks for the help, everyone. The "Won't clear unfortunately" is just for the front's?

I really only need to swap out the rears.

Just want to be sure without having to jack up my car/try-wheel in a strange location while I purchase my craigslist wheels.

The 16" wheel will fit the rear - the rear rotor and caliper is exactly the same between the V6 and V8 cars. In fact, my drag radials are mounted on the V6 16" wheel and I have the pony package which came with the GT 17" wheel package. Only the front rotor and caliper bracket are different between the two (the front caliper is the same, just a bigger mounting bracket to clear the bigger rotor - I just swapped my front to the bigger GT front brakes)
