I'm debating whether I should wait a month or two to get my 05 stang.

Would this be a bad idea? I've heard mixed opinions about this. Some say the pricing will be going up, and others say the pricing will be going down.

What do you guys think?

The answer is yes and no. The MSRP as others have reported will go up a little real soon. The price you have to pay to get the car will go down a little after a couple of months as the dealers have more cars available and are more willing to negotiate on the price. You can however "find" a deal right now if you look around a bit.

According to Karpro (a salesman):
"Ford just verified that Job#2 will be November 29, 2004. The price level code will become 530. They have not let us know how much the increse will be but it's coming. Typically the increase is anywhere from $150 to $500. Those that have orders in ahead of time are price protected, so don't let your dealer tell you otherwise."

If you order now you can get the lower MSRP, plus (but I doubt it) there might be some incentives in two months. Who knows?

Where are you located? I'm in upstate NY, I forsee selling prices dropping a touch when there is a couple feet of snow on the ground. I also forsee them rebounding some a few months later, towards spring. If you've got a dealer willing to work from invoice up do it now. If you can't get a discount, wait it out.

Is it safe to say that most dealers will work from invoice up?

Ford has recently said that they are trying to phase out "Incentives". They believe that their car quality will sell the cars instead of incentives.

There is one area that the availability should bring the price down in a few months ... special orders. At present, dealers around here are not even doing special orders. Well, technically they are but they are telling people (me when i tried last week) that they will not be in for 3 to 6 months, so they may as well be saying that they arent taking them. And for those i have seen in here, when they are taking them it is for about 500 over invoice. In a few months, as they become more available, the dealers will be more willing and able to take a special order just to get a sale, and they will be more willing to deal closer to the invoice for one (ie down to 100 over invoice). So in this respect, you may find a better deal if you are willing to special order one and are willing to wait a bit.

Seems to depend on the area you live in. I've found none in the Central Florida area that will do that. All are MSRP or above (even on orders).

Are there some kind of magic words I need to say to get them to work from invoice up?

Rebates not only kill resale but also lease residuals, which become counter productive over time. People whine about thier rebates up front, then whine when their resale is in the toilet in 3 years. You will pay much more in loss of resale value then the money you save up front, by at leaast 2 to 1. 500/Freestyle/Mustang are priced to not need rebates. If the car seems to be too much, you are not shopping the right vehicle, or the right employer.
