why are these cars targets???
I have an '06 GT, Torch Red, my third Mustang.
Previously: 1996 V6, black, kept it for 8 years.
2001 GT, performance red, kept it for almost 2 years.
Anyway, never any problems with either of these.
I have had my '06 for 7 months and it has already been egged twice.
Most recently, this past weekend, a brick was thrown at it which put
a 2 inch scratch/dent on the driver side front fender. It also clipped my
rim and took a chunk out of it. All of this vandalism has occurred at my sister's house. (on street parking, not the best of neighborhoods).
Even so, I've parked all of my other cars there during weekend visits without issues. This sucks!!!!

Sorry to hear about your car, but you'll never figure out exactly why people do things like this, because you don't think like a vandal. The easiest explanation is jealous board kids looking for a sick thrill of some sort. Your new red Mustang really stands out on the street and is a quick easy target, since they probably perform the acts while just driving by. I'm going to state the obvious, but you're going to have to try to avoid parking in front of your sister's place.
Screw that, no way I would give them the chance to further damage my car. Why are these cars targets? Jelousy plays a factor, but not nearly as much as the general disreguard for other peoples property, combine that with the fact that most people 14-28 suffer from cronic a-hole-itis. Sorry this happened to you.

Probably just jealousy or could be that your car is red. you said your sisters neighborhood was not the best, maybe in that area red is not the color of choice
Sounds crazy but years ago my wifes car was keyed and had gang crap written on it because it was blue. Bunch of idiots
With my '05 I had, it was keyed, the spinners I had on the wheels were stolen, I was egged 3 times, had marks on the rear end on my stripes, some kind of soda all over my car, the tire valve pulled out and my windshield wiper blades stolen... All in the first year... During the second year, when I saw more Mustangs on the road, the vandalism all but stopped... As much crap that happened to my car, I am just glad it wasn't anything worse like slashed tires, broken windows, stolen car, etc... I am hoping my '06 doesn't end up going through the same problems!
Think about it... You don't need to ask the question " why are these cars targets". The answer is...because they are. For the same reason you bought the car. It's sexy, fast, flashy, bold, muscular.......
Everyone talks about the attention that this car is getting, and how everyone tells them how awesome the car is. Well there is a flip side to everything. Attention is not always a good thing. Your car sticks out in a crowd. in a world of camry look alikes you have a very powerful image sitting outside. mid nineties and early 00's the mustang was commonplace been around for ever, mild changes here and there. Your car, for the same reason they've been selling like hot cakes, is the reason why it gets targeted. Now imagine that all your desire for that car and no ability to ever touch it. Face it very few people can afford 400-600 clams every month. Doesn't make it right, just makes it reality.
You have two options
one you trade it in on a camry or look alike.
Or
Get a garage. No matter what kind of car you own, parking on the street is never a good idea and always a bad one.

The most jealous are the ones with fart cans, huge spoilers, and other junk slapped on a POS car, or owners of rusted out Chebbies with gutted cats and no mufflers. I can't picture a Dodge Viper GTS-R or Corvette Z06 owner going to a S197 GT and egging it or keying it. I can however see the owner of some POS oil burning ricer with a 5' spoiler doing that.

I have two theories. My first theory is that it is not because of the car but because the neighborhood has gotten worse since you owned the previous mustangs. My second theory is because there were Camaros when you owned your previous Mustangs and since there isn't a current Camaro the bow tie boys are upset and taking it out on your mustang.
Brad, sorry to read this man. This is awful.
Sad to say but I really think there is an increased lack of respect and courtesy in society in general.
A Mustang is not an expensive car. It costs the same as an Accord so why on earth would people be jealous of hard working Mustang owners like us? That makes no sense but it's a reality. Hopefully, you can fix the dent. Try PDR (Paintless Dent Removal). It's a good technique and inexpensive but I'm not sure how bad your dent is.

I feel for the original poster, as my laser red '95 GT was also keyed (about a foot-long scratch on the driver's fender, right below the 'Mustang GT' badge). But I don't think you'll find any pattern or reasons why cars get keyed. Two days after my wife bought her 2001 Hyundai Sante Fe, the rear hatch was keyed - who could be jealous of a Santa Fe?

Trying to figure out why idiots do idiotic things will just drive you to frustration. Even those of us who are lucky enough to have garages must occasionally park the car somewhere where it could be keyed or vandalized, so it's something we all just have to live with...
