I think the reason alternative power/fuel technology for engines hasn't caught is because there's no need for it. Only a small market can be found because gas is still fairly affordable and it's everywhere.

See, the market has a life of its own. When there's a large demand, it will be satisifed soon. If gas ever became scarce (which is debateable), then the companies would have to adapt or die.

Under the present circumstances, this technology is being pursued only halfheartedly and experimentally. Why? Because so far it's only politics and public relations, NOT market necessity.

Why did Ford spend hundreds of millions of dollars to make a new Mustang? Because there's huge demand; it's worth their while. Why didn't Ford spend hundreds of millions developing alternative fuel technologies? Because there's very little demand. Now if that changes, you can bet the companies will spend whatever money and effort they need to come up with new ways.

It's all about market; and that's natural. You have to let it take its course.

I don't know about the sound factor. I've heard some pretty bad sounding diesal trucks, although not quite the sound of the mustang. I saw a duelly last night with slicks run a 11.5 1/4 mile. Sick
