Thumbs up

I'm buying this radar detector for my Mustang.

I would like to Directwire it so I don't have a wire going from the unit across my dash to the power outlet.

Where to I hook these two small metal loops to in the '05 Mustang?

read the owner's manual for the radar detector it should be there, better to be safe then pulled over at 100 cause it didn't go off. Or better yet, don't speed on the highways and save it for the track, and don't risk everyone's life around you.

There are also degrees of speeding. In the midwest there are many speed traps and cities/towns that are ******. (Drop the speed limit on highways as you enter, and nail you as you pass the sign). So I'd consider getting one for cross country driving, just because it can occasionally remind you to you're getting near one.

And on interstate highways (clear days/nights), I understanding cruising at 80+ or so. And wouldn't mind having one.

I especially loved someone I say that had velcro'd one to their passengers airbag. Duh! Bet the passenger would love that coming at their head at 100MPH+....

But agree with NewPony. Drive sane. If you want real fun, take it to the track.

Buy a voltmeter. Open up your dash. Find a 12 volt power line. (Like the accessory power point above the radio). Piggy back on that. Verify voltage and polarity. Re-verify. Re-verify (don't want to short your new Mustang or fry your expensive fuzz-buster, do ya?). Put dash back together. Drive.

Yeah what Gene Jockey said. If you can't find a 12 volt line and you run out of wire, just use speaker wire or something as an extension and solder it to the back side of the cig lighter socket. If you do this, just don't use the lighter or you'll bust a fuse.

If you get lost, worst case scenario is you have to go to a custom stereo/alarm installation place and have them do it for you. I have the Passport 8500 too. You won't regret having it wired correctly from the get go. Don't wait because you'll be like me and never get it done.

Get a Cobra Radar Detector, Cobra Radar Detectors have been the best detectors I have used and they have saved me a lot from Tickets and getting Busted by the Cops, I looked into the valentine one and from fellow friends of mine, told me it wasn't good, but I've never heard of Escort, maybe they are a little better than Cobra's, but I thought I'd give my input on radar detectors and the one name that I've trusted is Cobra.....

Both the passport 8500 and especially the v1 far outclass any cobra detector. The two mentioned are the top detectors available.
