When will Ford Revive The Mach 1

Its awsome how the Mustangs of today look and remind us of the first generation of Mustangs. Ford and Carroll Shelby got back together once again to remake an American Classic, The cobra GT500. Undoubtedly one of the sickest Mustangs ever made. Also Fords making an attempt to bring the Boss Mustang back. With that said I cant wait for the Mach 1 to come back. I dont think its a matter of if, its a matter of when. Lets hope this time Ford gets its done right, the 03 04 Mach 1's are a joke( no disrespect to anyone who owns one).

Why are 2003-2004 Mach 1's a joke? If you don't mind me asking.

Nothing Special about the car. Its a regular Mustang with a bigger motor and shaker and Mach 1 decal running along ths bottem side of the car. Ford put no effort into that car.You need to look at it twice to notice if its a Mach 1 or a GT. See it for yourself

I'm trying to understand how you would differentiate a future Mach 1. Since a bigger (specific to model) motor, shaker, styling cues make it nothing special.

Try putting say...a red GT and a red Mach 1 next to each other...you'll see some differences then. Of course black cars will look the same, features on the car don't stand out as much. A future Mach 1 would be the same exact theme.

Styling aside, color choices easily distinguish a Mach 1 from a GT, except perhaps in the case of black. There are no Azure Blue GTs, for example.

The engine is significant - an all-aluminum 32v DOHC 320hp, 340ft-lb with shaker scoop induction required engineering effort. The shocks and struts, front brakes, exhaust, wheels, and seats are updates from the GT.

Ford put more than "no effort" into the car.

The Mach 1 was more than a sticker job. The gauges were done in a retro style and the seats were done in a retro style. The engine is, IMHO, one of the best mod motors Ford has done. In contrast to the first Mach 1, they did quite a bit of special things for this model. The Shaker was standard on this car.
The 69 Mach 1 was essentially a fastback GT with different stripes and a more upscale interior. A spoiler and rear window louvers were optional.
The 69 Mach 1 included the GT's non-functional hood scoop. A functional "Shaker" scoop was available. It was mounted on top of a special air cleaner and protruded though the hood. A vacuum-operated door opened when the throttle was floored, allowing cool air into the carburetor. The scoop was standard on the 428 Cobra Jet Ram-Air V-8 and optional for Mach 1 or GT with 351 or 390 engines. The stripe package was reflective. A flat black rear spoiler was not an option early, but became available late in the model year.
So I ask you… What was so special about the earlier Mach 1 mustangs that were basically sticker jobs on a standard GT?

Well, that's pretty much what Ford did with the original Mach 1 back in 1969. The 69 Mach 1 was just a Mustang with a bigger motor, shaker & Mach 1 decal on the side of the car. Ford put no effort into the '69 Mach 1.

If you wanted a real performance Mustang back in the 60s you bought a Shelby or a Boss.

Actually, I may be wrong but the motors you could get on the Mach 1 were avaliable on most Mustangs. So, yeah, the Mach 1 was mostly a sticker job.

And that's different than the original Mach 1 in what way? If anything, the '03-'04 Mach 1 is a more specialized vehicle since the engine it uses was only available in the Mach 1 during those years. In the original Mach 1, the engines were the same as you could get on a regular Mustang.

Have you ever heard an 03-04 Mach 1? Oh man, if only my 03 GT would *ever* sound that good...as far as comparing to a GT, well, there is no comparison. Totally different car. And I hope I'm lucky enough one day to own one!

Hey wait a second! My '69 Mach resembles that remark! It didn't even have disc brakes.

You are correct.
I used the "with a bigger motor comment" because IIRC the standard motor for the Mach 1 was a 351 vs. 250 cid 6cyl for the base Mustang.

Have you driven a Mach 1? The newer ones are well balanced, quick and comfortable. I saw a mag shootout a few years ago where it was compared to the GT, Cobra and Mach. It won based on the overall package.

My brother had a '70 Mach1 with a 351C and C-6 Auto. It was actually kind of a piece of crap.

The original mach 1's were a fastback with a stripe, not even neccisarily a bigger engine, and mayb different wheels....my dads was sick....He had a 71 mach 1 with a 351 nascar HO engine...Ford goofed and put the track car engine in his car.
