Whats your short throw shifter brand and why?

Hey there,
Depends on the car. In my '99 Cobra it was a Steeda TriAx. Am strongly considering the same shifter for my '03 Mach1. The wife wont let me put a different shifter in her '02 GT (her loss)
In our '05 exhibition car - its a Stillen short throw shifter - which will be available from what I am told within the next 30 days (I have been pushing for this shifter since the day I first drove the company car). VERY short throw - approximatly 60% shorter than OEM.

Short Throw Shifter
Before I made my choice I read over 40 pages of background on this subject in this and other forums. The overwhelming consensus was that MGW was the brand to get. Several of those posting had tried all the major brands mentioned and concluded that MGW was the best by far. I'm not sure but I believe MGW is the only one out there that lets you adjust the throws and the position of the shift handle up and down and left and right. Some have *****ed about the price but the quality is exceptional. I have had mine for 5 months and I am completely happy with it.

Pro 5.0 and MGW which have both been on my car. Both are great shifters but I give MGW a very slight advantage due to the adjustability.

I've had a Steeda in my '01 and Pro50 in my SVO. Both are T5 transmissions. Both shifted well, but overall I prefer the feel of the Pro50.
I like the Hurst in my '05 for the same reasons everyone else does. Feel, looks, heritage, price etc. I considered the MGW when I was looking for a shifter for my '05, but the nostalgia factor won and I got the Hurst, and I'm very happy with it.

The only thing I can add to this is that I too like the notchie-ness. Just like someone else mentioned, it reminds me of the old "rock crusher" 4 speeds that my dad had when I was growing up and I learned to drive on. Every time I shift I get a smile, remembering cruising with my Dad.

Hurst all the way. I had a Hurst in my '05 as well. I grew up with Hurst shifters, and like the old-school look and the way they feel. Maybe it's the notchie-ness, but it feels solid and substantial. I added the longer shift lever to mine and it looks like the Hurst shifter out of my '68 442. I get lots of comps on the way it looks.
