There's no official break-in required. I'd personally give it about 1,000 miles to seat the rings, which is somewhat conservative. The only thing you need to avoid is banging it off the rev limiter and driving at a steady state speed on the interstate for hundreds of miles at a time. Vary speeds and keep the revs down at a reasonable level.

I've been driving mine hard since I left the dealership. I went to the dragstrip with 300 mileson the odometer.

The consensus on modern motors is you can drive it like you stole it from day one. I would use SOME common sense to not beat up on the driveline components and make sure you don't warp the rotors or glaze the pads, but not so much for the motor's sake. I believe when they first start it up, they simply peg the rev limiter for a few minutes anyway.

I went ***** out with mine the morning after I picked it up. I took it to redline more the first full day of ownership than my 96GT in 4 years. If it's gonna break, do it under warranty.

It seems that nowadays the break in camps are split about 50/50. One group believes that taking it easy for about 1,000 miles or so is good for the car, the other group thinks that it's best for the engine if you drive it like you're GOING to be driving it from day one.

I belong to group #2. I took my GT to redline on the test drive

Just made sure you change the oil after a couple days or maybe 100miles or so. I did the mototune rbeak in secrets (link posted above) - changed oil not until 4 or 5 days, ~800kms and there was lots of metal flakes.

have fun!
