#1053....build date early september. I have been trying to find out exactly when but have had no luck yet. But you can bet it was one of the first few days of production.

We have had this discussion a thousand times.
The serial # is NOT the order in which the cars were built.
It is simply the order they were serialized.
If you take all these numbers and put them in order along with their exact build dates (not build week or build month) you'll see this is true.
While a lot of them will be in chronological order (just because of when the numbers were assigned) a lot of them won't be in order. And if there were some way to know EXACTLY when they came off the line, they'd be even more out of order.
BTW, 173,361; 2/28/05.

The VINS are assigned by FORD, not the plant, when the order is received by Ford, and are sequential only to that point. Your build data is not at the plant yet, I don't care what your dealers say. Just because you have a VIN with a "0799" number, that does not mean that it will be built in that order. Once Ford sends them to the plant, the plant releases in an order that allows the plant to build efficiently. Therefore, depending on option content, "0070" might be released before "0060" Also, please remember that AAI also builds a Mazda product. Currently, AAI rolls about 400 cars off the line a day. AAI only runs one shift right now, but that will be 2 by job 1. Some days are more than 400 cars, some are less, depending on how each shop is running. Your car may be released for build one day, but it may be a few days before it reaches final assembly, MAYBE more, depending on if there were any quality issues with any welds, or the paint quality was not up to par, or what not. The bare body could get to paint, and be scrapped because of quality and the process would start all over. Or it could go through paint, have some issues, and be scrapped there. To compound this, they all get mixed and shuffled in the paint shop in order to paint more efficiently. To this end, once it reaches final assembly, VIN # 1000 might roll off the line before VIN # 0799. In reality, it's USUALLY not that far apart, but it COULD be. Once it IS released to final assembly, it should be finished within a day or so, unless there are any quality issues. If there are any, they are fixed, and go back through inspection, before they are driven out the door to be shipped.
VINS are assinged by Ford, before the order is even sent to the plant. There are a few different stations throughout the build process that etch the VIN into various parts of the car. I am not 100% sure of all of those areas though. I do know it's etched into the interior underbody panel though. To specifically answer your question, no, there is no station that assigns VINS at the plant, only stations that etch the pre assigned VIN into the body, or into components, or onto the VIN plate itself.
I'm not sure how other Ford plants do this. It is my understanding that other Ford plants build in sequencial order, throughout the entire process. That's why I said that AAI is like no other Ford plant.

Mine is 2,117 and was delivered to the dealer on October 27, 2004. My window sticker has a date of 09/03/04 on the bottom line to the right of the truck shipping info. I have made the assumption that that date is the off-theline date/build date. It is consistent with my engine date which is 09/01/04. So y'all might want to check the bottom of the window sticker for a build date cross-check.
Incidentally, this scheme of starting VIN sequence numbers at 100,000 is nothing new. Ford did this same scheme with the 1965 Mustang 40 years ago!!

Mine and redGT's car were made on the same day, 11-24-04 and if the numbers are correct, they made 847 Mustangs in one day? Wonder if the date on the window sticker might not be the date the car was made?

I'd like to know if the date on the bottom right of the window sticker is the build date - the sticker on the door jamb says 12/04. What date is on your door jamb sticker?
the 11-24-04 I got from the lower right hand side of the window sticker.
