Thumbs up

I know the final steps to buying my car will be coming up as RUBY is expected to be here in less than a month. I have seen some people say they ended up getting everything (like lojack, whatever that is, etc.) Just to get the dealer to shut up. My question is when they start talking about all the offers they have, like painting the undercaragge and such, what should i get and what shouldn't i get? Is it nessicary to get any of it? Whats a good way to go about repeatedly but politely saying "no?"
PLEASE HELP! My parents were so proud at how i took charge with my dealer, when ordering. I want to be able to do the same with the final discussion.

P.S. i did a search on this but couldn't find anything pertaining to this, but if i overlooked it i'm truely sorry for taking up your time.

Just say no to everything, you can get everything they offer for cheaper elsewhere. The only thing I would buy extra from a dealer is the extended warranty if you want that.

Aww, how cute look at him hes ordering his very own car! Sorry, I just found that funny.

Get what you want once agan it's your final discussion. Personally I will most likely get the extended warranty and I'm not really sure what else is offered, Lojack you get somewhere else as well as most things.

Don't worry about being polite. If your too nice they'll keep pushing it on you.

Just tell them no becuase you can get it cheaper elsewhere. Simple as that.

Have fun in your new ride!

Arm yourself with the pricing from this site, and get the options you want, not what the dealer says isn't available (IUP anyone).

Everything that is not on the price sheet is added fluff to make the dealership money.

Maybe get an extended warranty if it makes you feel better, but 9 out of 10 times you'll never use it. Check with your insurance company. I know Allstate and Geico offer a service & repair coverage up to 80K & 100K miles respectively for new cars for maybe an addition $5.00 a month.

Good luck!

You're kidding right? "Ordered 10/27/04 from Audubon Ford of Baton Rouge." He has already ordered, I would assume has seen it by now and he wants to know what is suggested not whats on the invoice.

Exactly.
And follow what Ghost TX says as well - go in armed with information/ammo and you'll be prepared. In the end remember - you are doing them the service paying them 25 sum odd grand for a car - you wanna say no to something?... You say NO.

You're right... missed that. Didn't read his signature, I was assuming he was on the way to order and tips for closing.

Either way, know what you want and the price you want before you get there. Don't get sold on stuff you don't want.

Alot of the "aftersale" stuff is a rip off but not all of it. Extended warranties can be a good value if priced fairly. If you live in a snow belt area and will be driving it year round the undercoating can be okay. I'm not a fan of the rest of the "protection" packages. I wax my vehicles on a regular basis and have a bottle of rain-x in the garage so I don't need paint protector or aquapel.

Decide if there is anything else you really need or want and what you are willing to pay for it ahead of time. If the products and price match up fine, if not say no thank you.

To avoid alot of pressure at delivery, if you are paying cash, just ask for the exact figure ahead of time and bring a check for that. If they start pushing extras just remind them that there is no more money left under the mattress.

Just remember, you don't have to buy the extended warranty when you buy the car. You can add it before the standard factory warranty runs out. At least that's what I am doing with mine.

Avoid the paint protection and interior protection options. Buy some wax and a can of spray protector (for cloth) or Lexol (for leather).

Rustproofing can usually be done more cheaply aftermarket.

Pretty much like everyone else said.... Just say "NO". How many times have we all heard that???? Check with the insurance company's for the extended warranty, usually the best deal. These guys won't steer you wrong!

I ended up getting the service AND part warrenty. Basically...everything is covered on the car...except for gas. Its great...and only added about $40 a month. thats 75k miles or 5 years...with a $50 deductable on the parts. And, on the service...all the scheduled check ups are taken care of.

Richard,

If you are paying on that car for the same 5 year period that is gonna cost you $2400! Did they offer a better deal if you pay for the extended warrenty up front? It's the only thing I would consider and I have read most places that the only one worth a darn is the one offered by the OEM. Anyone comment on that?
