I tell you what though I do not miss my son collecting the pokeman cards!!!
Old topic, but I've been giving a lot of thought to mine lately... I'm kicking around 3 names right now:
Oracle, Trinity, & Siren
I like something that's deeper than just a girl's name. This is my 3rd car. My first car was (and still is) a tan 1988 toyota long bed pickup. It had a color keyed topper on it. My brother had it first and used to listen to Jazz in it all the time, so I called it The Jazz Banana (Jazz for short). Then I got my second car - my 1966 Mustang. I call her Deuce. It's a great reference to #2, old Fords, and the old west (Poker and gambling - Deuce's Wild).
This car... I cant get my finger on the pulse. I like Oracle because of it's various meaning:
1: an authoritative person who divines the future
2: a prophecy (usually obscure or allegorical) revealed by a priest or priestess; believed to be infallible
3: an authoritative or wise statement or prediction.
3: a shrine where an oracular god is consulted
4: a shrine consecrated to the worship and consultation of a prophetic deity
Since the car fits these discriptions, I lean towards it the most... Dunno though. I'd like something... cooler. I want something that doesn't sound totally tacky or stupid. I try to envision the name stamped on someone else's license plate (on the same car) and think about how I would react to that name.

How about "Pedro" cause it will "make all your wildest dreams come true".
Mine will be redfire (color)... so my first thought was "Elektra" but I may go with "Sid" after Jennifer Gardner's Character on Alias.
My kids named my '94 GT "Bubba" and a 2001 Tahoe was "Goliath" from The Gargoyles.

Wow... you people actually name your car. Interesting.....
OK, I will call mine car payment. Hey, while I am at it, I think I will name my house mortgage.

I really don't get it either.
I think the obsession is for the most extreme auto enthusiasts. It's like people that name their boats. Mostly, it's out of respect, and this translates over into the auto world. Enthusiasts name their cars out of respect.
The old sailor's addage goes a little something like this:
A boat is an unpredictable and untameable thing. If you want it to respect you, you have to respect IT. Most importantly, it behaves just like a woman. If you abuse it and treat it poorly, it will not take care of you and return you to shore safely. If you love it, respect it, and treat it like you would a woman, it will treat you with respect and take care of you. That's why sailors name their boats after women and why they talk to them (calling them girl, lady, and such). It sort of personalizes their respect for the boat.
Auto Enthusiasts do the same thing. That's why a car should be named after a woman, and that's where the naming came from. In a more modern slant, the cars that often receive names have sleek and sexy lines - curves like a woman. That's a more brutish fantasy that the less sophisticated men will use to justify their naming convention (Kinda like the guy that would name a boat with 2 props "Twin Screws").
Hope that makes sense.

Named her "Loretta" after one of my wifes friends. She would call me daily to check on the car and gush every time she saw it. My wife thinks she's wacked. I think she has good taste. So I named my GT Loretta.
My wife just calls it "your car"
My Cougars ended up being 'the coug'. My Ranger was 'the truck'. My dalliance with the dark side (bow tie), was 'the Z'. My wife's Explorer became 'the Exploder', when my youngest was trying to pronounce it.
As for the new Mustang, I dunno. "Horse" might do. I was a tanker in the army (armored cavalry), so I still bark at the family to 'mount up and get ready to move out'.
Since I'm a detailing nut, it also fits to put the Horse before the rider!
Name your steed!

My Torch Red '05 convertible was dubbed "Rock Lobster" before leaving the dealer lot. It was the first song on the radio as I was leaving after picking her up, and since it's a red car and all, it just seemed to fit

I don't have mine yet... put in a deposit for 2006 Pony Package. I have two kids, bought a DVD a year or so ago called Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, see http://www.dreamworks.com/spirit/. As an animation, the movie is very good, well made, with a good storyline, good action and excellent music ... bought the soundtrack too.
That to say, I will name my future Mustang: Spirit.
PS: On the intro page of the website, the words flashing in and out is reflective of the Mustang:
Fast as the wind
Strong as the sun
Wild as the place he called home
Hero
Legend
Spirit - Stallion of the Cimarron
Along the lines of other posts on first songs, I am thinking that the first song I play will be "Here I Am", played in the movie when Spirit is born.
