weird pinging- first time ever

left work today, engine still cold, got on the on-ramp let it wind up to like 4000 in second, lifted for a few seconds as the ramp turns tighter, stepped on it and heard the worst pinging ever- like every cylinder, at close to 3000 rpm...lifted right away, stepped back into it and it was fine.
no tune, very very rarely ever heard any pinging before- only at low rpm/hot, only a few clicks and gone- but this was really nasty...reminded me of my old 396 on cheep gas, only louder as its an aluminum motor. anyone else ever seen this before- and is it just a fluke from stepping too hard on a cold engine, or should I be expecting to see a bad 02 sensor or MAF soon? my mileage hasnt changed, so thinking its just a fluke- but hope I never hear it again...think a few seconds of that would take out a head gasket in a hurry.

Mediocre batch of gas? There was an issue here locally with a distributors tank being a problem and then it got passed out & diluted in the stations tanks, and then again in your tank.

Or, possibility of air bubble? On long distance steady throttle cruises our cars tend to froth at the pump, when you step on it hesitates as it sucks in. The conditions are opposite your situation, but a fluke that is possible?

The froth at the fuel pump issue was solved and a TSB was issued.

Cam phaser solenoid not switching? Just guessing. I have no idea if it would or wouldn't cause that kind of problem but since it varies advance??? By the way I had unplugged my left cam phaser solenoid connector a while ago and found engine oil had seeped up into the connector, but not high enough to cover both terminals. Reminds me, I should check to see if it's still leaking.
