Warranty Parts Swap..Anyone have luck with this?

Gents,
I have a quick question. I have a 2005 GT 'Vert. I had a legitimate tear in the top where the driver's side window was "clipping" the top and subsequently created a tear....Went to the dealer yada yada...Finally all parties agreed it needed to be replaced. Now when 05 came out I inquired about a cloth top option for the car and there was not one available. I asked the dealership if we could replace it with a cloth top...new option for '07. I offered to pay the retail difference. They kicked the idea around for a couple of weeks and finally said no. They had the regional ford service representitive call me and he said "No, we never modify vehicles..ever never ever" At any rate....I am little irritated that they in no way want me to be happy. I said ok forget about warranty can you give a really nice price on it if I just pay outright for it? NO! , was the answer. So I guess my question is has anyone had a warranty repair where you upgraded or changed an option in the process? Or really do they never ever modify a vehicle?
Thanks for the feedback.
Cheers!
Irish

I'm sure it depends on the dealer, but I had a '95 gt I bought new back in '95 and immediately the rear end was winning from the gears and after only 900 miles they were shot. If I remember right it came with 3.55's and I wanted 3.73's which were available from Ford. I asked if I could get the 3.73's instead and if there was a difference in price I would pay and they said no. I then asked since they were doing the labor anyway if I paid entirely for the gears would they do it and again the answer was no.

This I would have to argue. If you puchased lets FRPP 410 gears in the parts store {Ford} Ford would for a price install them, correct? Than here is the arguing point. Seems simple. Or am I missing something here?

I know of another member on TMS that had his 05 or 06 headlights replaced with 07 headlights when the reflector burned out like it has on mine. I know this is something minor, but they still replaced the part with something other than the original part. I think a lot of it has to do with the dealer you get involved with. Some dealers just will really treat you right!

It all depends on the dealer and the factory service rep. The rep has the final say in the matter. I can see where they might not want to do gears, but the top shouldn't really be an issue if you pay the price difference.

My Dodge dealer has treated me like a king. Since my Mustang is brand new, it remains to be seen how that will go.
