Can you go any earlier? If you can... I'd suggest it. Traffic is a PITA by 5:00pm, even at 3:00pm it's pretty bad. My mom is going with me Haha see if you can go earlier, maybe we can all meet up.
Oh yeah, I have friends who live in D-toilet, so I know the traffic (and roads) stink. I'm planning on taking a half-day at work and getting there between 2 and 3 to give me some time to check out all the other cool stuff before my appointed drive time.

I'll PM ya later on about it.

Just registered for Kentucky Speedway for 2:30pm. The track is only about 40 or 50 miles north of here.

I see that the detroit ride is on Belle Isle. Is there a track on the Island? Just wondering since this is a Ford Racing event.

I look forward to meeting you. I've signed up for the 5:30pm slot at Kentucky Speedway, which is about 35 miles to the south of downtown Cincinnati.

Yup... the old Grand Prix races were on Belle Isle.

Maybe this'll bring racing back into Detroit. Hasn't had a Grand Prix since 2001 I believe and there was talks about having a track at the Michigan State Fair Grounds, but that got smashed.

Also, the Saturday following this event is the Woodward Dream Cruise

Somewhat off topic, but back in about 1982 or 1983, I was a member of the Diablo Valley Mustang Association (Concord, CA), with my 1966 Fastback 2+2.

As a club, we got to drive a parade lap around Sears Point raceway prior to that days race. Although it was just a parade lap, it was a lot of fun, as the crowd loved to watch us. Parade doesn't mean we were doing 25 mph, however. We did safe road speeds for each part of the track (going below tire squeal speeds, but not poking along. Just following each other at safe speeds and distances)

Anyhow, just getting your own car out on a real track is fun, even if you aren't pushing any limits.

Thanks USMC0341 for the post. I've signed up for the Ford Racing Innovation Drive at Irwindale after reading it. Being able to drive the '05 Mustang GT on the track will be great!

I called the 800 number on the register confirmation email, cute sounding girl answered, I asked her that, she said you just line up for the car you want to drive. I said I assume that they only allow X number of people per hour. She said yes, but I'm dubious. Everyone will line up for the Stang. I only hope you don't get shown the door an hour after your time whether you drove the car you wanted or not. I'd wait quite a while.
