My salesperson (actually the dealership's fleet director) emailed me today about my car, which was supposed to be here on the 24th, and said it had been released from the factory but was waiting for a railcar. She said she was told there were over a thousand vehicles held up due to lack of railcars and that they (Ford) gave no indication as to when they'd be shipped.

Has anyone else heard this? I don't believe she'd make up a story and I've worked with her since 1998 so I'm inclined to believe her. I'm on the west coast (Portland, OR) if that makes a difference.

That does make me wonder. My car was "released" on 6/9, but nobody seems to know anything else. I wonder if it is sitting at Flat Rock. I can't imagine why there would be a shortage of Ford assigned tri-level auto racks, unless the Fusion production in Mexico, with the associated longer transit times, has stretched the Ford pool of racks.

 

I went down by the plant on Sunday and there does seem to be a lack of railcars around. I'm waiting for mine as well built on the week of the 5th and it only has to go 20 miles to the dealer, so the can't give me railcar story. Oh well, all in due time. The waiting is killing me!

 

Mine now says it's coming by convoy.Does that mean by truckfromthe factory directly to the dealer??

Is that VOPC, Customer Relations, or the dealer that says it's coming in by convoy? VOPC still has me as "released....yadda yadda....delivery week of June 25, 2006".

Well, I'm still waiting for a railcar. Ford was able to move 300 or so out of the 1000+ backlogged at the factory, but there's still no ETA from them as to when mine will be shipped. Now I'm being told the factory shuts down from July 3rd through the 10th, so I probably won't see it for another month.

I think I'll start looking for a 2006.

"As of June 22, 2006, your vehicle has shipped via rail carrier with an estimated time of arrival week of July 1, 2006." Guess I'll be making daily trips by the Ford railyard now. Hope the guards don't run me off.

I went by the railyard today after 4pm. Didn't see my car but I did see another Vista Blue Mustang. Couldn't tell if it was a GT or a V6 since it was all the way across the yard but it was an '07 based on the silver bullits it was wearing. The guy told me they got 3 or 4 loads in per week so I'll keep going by after work. He said I need to speak with his boss to get permission to walk around the yard so I need to make a run by there at lunch tomorrow. Other than that, no new info.

Went back to railyard at lunch today. Was told that I absolutely would not be allowed in the railyard. Can't even stand along the fence or at the gate to look over the yard. I had my Order Confirmation, invoice, DORA and some other paperwork to prove I was legit but no dice.

Then..........I somehow found out my car was on a railcar in GA on its way here and should be here tomorrow, no later than Thursday. With just a bit of luck, I should be riding by Friday!
