Anybody else notice that there are alot of blind spots in this car?

Backing up is particularly nerve-wracking as is maneuvering in heavy traffic. Or is it just me? :scratch:

My 95 Olds Cutlass SL does not present this problem.

 

Which blinds spots are you talking about? I find that because the rear end of the car is quite tall, it's a little difficult to judge how far way the rear end is from another object, like another car bumper or a kid's bike. Just takes a little getting used to.

 

yep backing up is pretty much tough....i dont want to hit a wall or another car backing up so i am really careful...i always get out and check how much room i have....

 

There have been blind spots in every Mustang I have ever owned. I thought this one was better.

Do you use your side view mirrors? They do wonders for me when backing up vehicles, never driven a S197, but if ur trying to look out the back window, ur gonna be alot better off looking in the mirrors.

 

i would normally agree with you - i ALWAYS back-in when i park and use my side mirrors all the time. however, with this car, i find the side mirrors aren't really helpful - i finally cleared the garage today so i could put the car inside and when i was backing in, the mirrors made it seem like i was going to scrape both sides of the car (as if it was too wide) but in reality i had at least 3 inches from either mirror tip.

it's weird, but the side mirrors on this car are really wonky...

Just yell for your wife and have her back it up for you. Oh, and don't trip on your skirt when you get out of her way!!! Just kidding.

 

A possible solution is doing some training with a van or large truck. Their blind spots will make the Mustang's relatively minor.

 

Good Point, I drove a '89 F-150 Long Bed for 3 years before I got my Mustang last week. The blind spots in the truck were horrible. Now that I'm in the Mustang, drving is a lot easier. The more you drive the car, the more you'll get used to it.

 

The vert is tough with blind spots.my real problem though is pulling it in the garage and trying to guage where the front bumper is so I don't hit the wall.I was trying to avoid having to pay for one of those fancy red beam light things but I may have to.I tried the rubber ball hanging from the ceiling and it is helping a little bit.

 

The solution: double yellow lines.

You mean you didn't get the rear camera option? It was offered as a combo pack with the electronic tire pressure monitor.

 

 

Go take a ride in a '71 - '73 Mustang fastback and try backing it up. You'll never complain about the S197 again

 

If you adjust your side mirrors so that you cannot see the side of your vehicle when you sit in the driver seat you should be able to back up safely. I also turn in the seat and look out the back window to get into my parking spot.

 

Yeah, backing up is a female dog. Aside from that I think visibility is great (compared to my Prelude).

 

The sure way to back up for me:

Open driver side window. Stick half my body out it. Place in reverse and steer.

 

I have backed up into another car (no damage done to their car, scratched the heck out of mine) and a planter (again, scratched the bumper) already... And I had no other problems with my other Mustangs... In any case, I am getting a lot better at backing up now... And for me, I have started using the side mirrors more, and they do help... A lot!

 

Didn't you know that these blind spots were part of the "Retro" feel they designed into this car?
