A vinyl stripe question

I think I remember that someone on the board used to install vinyl graphics or at least had some experience with them (Andrenalin, maybe...). Anyway, my question is about installing a solid stripe and limitations. I contacted Rob at BSM about a 20-21" center stripe, and he responded that it would be "nearly impossible" to make it work with the shelby ducktail and bumpers. If this is really the case, what would my size limit be to make this do-able?

If I was only doing the hood, roof, and rear deck, would it really be impossible? I can't imagine that those pieces being that flat could not be done. The kit that BSM offers has an 18" SuperSnake stripe with 2 1" pinstripes to the side that make it a total width of 22"... so I can't figure out how 20" compared to 18" can make that much difference. Now, I am asking for some expert advice, just because this is all my educated judgement, and I have never installed any of these.

And last but not least, if it isn't possible, how does the Roush BlackJack get this accomplished? The Roush site says it is a 21" stripe and I'm pretty sure they're vinyl.

So, what is the consensus? Anyone actually install stripes before that could offer some insight?

He said "nearly" impossible. Give it a shot I say! I know they've put a TON of time and effort into their pre-cut kits. I'm guessing he doesn't have something set-up already and that it would take him a bunch of time to set-up so he can make you one. It may be a demand issue. If he had your car he could develop it on the spot as he's installing it. In order to send you a kit he basically has to do the work twice. Then what are the odds he'll ever sell another one and be able to recoup his costs? Does that make sense?

I think what Rob might be referring to are the radical curve areas (like spoiler & bumpers). I just had my car striped using dual 10" with 1/2" pinstripes. I worked along side my graphics installer and saw why these areas are challenging. It took longer to do my bumpers and spoilers (chin and rear) than it did the rest of the car! The 1/2" pinstripes were a snap... the 10" wide stripes were the real bugger (on the curves). To get one piece to fit a curve.. and keep the lines, is tough. I imagine Rob is thinking a 20" piece would be pretty tough on those curves. If you're just doing the hood, roof, and trunk, I would think a 20" is quite doable.
