Red face

I deal heavily in aftermarket Jeep accessories. I've had to special order some parts for fellow co-workers' Mustangs in the past. I was wondering what the interest level was on this short list of my vendors that also make Mustang parts ('05s only, must learn one generation at a time )
  • Borla
  • K&N
  • Mr. Gasket (Accel, Mallory, Hurst, etc.)
  • Jones Electronis (JET)
  • B&M
  • Edelbrock
  • AEM
  • many, many more...

Borla is probably gonna get some business from '05 owners, although I'm going to get some Flowmaster mufflers to replace the stock ones. I know I am going to be going to K&N for my air filter and oil filters at the very least, and possibly get one of their fuel injection kits.

I'm not sure about exhaust right now, but I'll probably get an K&N airfilter at the first oil change. Also, as soon as a supercharger is available, I probably get one. And I'm sure that alot of people will lower the car, as the ride height is a close call as to whether its too high or not.

Do you have a preference for plastic or metal?

I don't really know. I've only owned crappy cars, and never touched them (too scared something would break).

I would think metal is sturdier and more reliable, so I would go with that (again, I really don't know which is less likely to break down).

I like Borla and Magnaflow; Flowmasters sound too "truck-like". I prefer quality over quantity of sound.

Borlas are too overpriced if you ask me, and don't sound all that well on Mustangs either. The most common exhaust is Mac, Magnaflow, and Flowmaster. Flowmaster will always sell for the Mustang because some people just get those mufflers, instead of the whole cat-back to get the sound they are looking for and that's a fact. The only one in my experience that I have seen that is a little low on quality is Mac and Flowtech

Metal(aluminum)... AEM, aluminum disapates(sp?) heat rather well. Throttle body spacers do not seam to apply in this case -Non-aluminum/other metal tubes may retain heat, reducing the effectiveness.

As for plastic... K&N Works great. I have not had any durability issues with their plastic tube(FIPK) for my 2000 Wrangler.

Thanks for all of your help.
I'll be sure to check out those brands when I'm ready to install the intakes. I appreciate the help.

All of these issues should wait to be answered after the car comes out. On current mustangs, these opinions count. the next mustangs are getting new engine, new exhaust, new intakes, etc. i personally would wait to see what all the aftermarket people come out with and how it functions/sounds.

On the other hand, i guess we need people to buy the different kinds so we can hear them on someone else's car before we decide what to buy.
