v6 mpg
v6 mpg
So i got my 08 v6 new a couple of months ago and this is my first car. It says i am getting 15.7 miles per gallon! I was thinking about a truck as opposed to the mustang but i chose the stang for the mileage. I am kind of regretting that decision now. So all that aside i am wondering if there is some sort of break in time and will my mileage start to go up after a while? I only have about 1000 miles on it now. Any input will be appreciated.
Usually you will see a slight increase after the break in. but at 1000 miles you should be seeing it soon. Having a mustang also tends to make people heavy footed so if you want 20mpg stay outta the fun pedal.
If you are mostly doing "city" with stop and go driving, your mileage will be way down. I have an 05 V6 with 11,000 miles and I average about 26-28 MPG if I use cruise control on the highway. Most of my driving is highway and that is at 65-75MPH. I gained a few more MPG after 3000 miles on the engine and I use only Synthetic oil. I also bought a reusable air filter-Fram Air Hog-and that seemed to help a bit. If I "lean on the car" for a tankful, I still end up at 24-25MPG with all highway driving. Hope this info helps.
my 06 gt was only getting 12 average the first couple tanks, around 1000 miles it almost 'jumped' up to 18 average on tank #3, been there ever since (24 highway only ).
I almost wonder if the factory tune might be a little on the safe(rich) side the first couple tanks, or maybe it takes that long for things like 02 sensors, knock sensors, vapor management stuff to settle in- along with gears lapping in, rings seating, etc
The wifes V6 gets right around 20 average, havent had it on long enough highway trip to see what highway only gets- but expect the 26 epa estimate should be about right as its only a couple more than the gt.

I get abysmal MPG in my Mustang GT. 12.8-13.5 100% city driving. 22 mpg was the best I have ever gotten cruise set at 80 mph on a long freeway trip. I'm betting the OP is in California because we tend to get lower MPG...and pay the most for gas.
I actually do a little better if I don't baby it. Get up to 40 mph quickly and settle in I get somewhere in the realm of 1-2 mpg better.

Thank you everybody for your input. It sounds like i will have to watch how i drive from now on. About the tunes, could someone explain those to me? Is it basically rewriting the cars computer or something?
Unless your doing strictly highway ... the mileage ain't that good. I have a manual tranny with 3.73 gears. I can get 17.5 if I drive like a grandma or around 14 normal driving. I drove 140 miles all highway yesterday. With the cruise set at 70MPH I got almost 25 MPG ... my RPM was around 2400 with the 3.73 in 5th.
+1 on driving style. I've gotten 26mpg on the highway once but average about 15 in-town. I generally have a lead foot too especially when taking off. Nothing extreme just heavy enough to enjoy the car. If you got the V6 over the GT for fuel savings you chose the wrong reason. You can get a fuel saver tune but it won't be a drastic change regardless of your driving style.
Do what I did with my wife's car...she was getting really crappy mileage and I disconnected the battery. She now has substantial gains in mpg. Cars these days learn the habit and adapt to the drivers. Say the car was test driven by a bunch of people who put it through its paces on the rough side. Sounds crazy but its worth a shot.
If I stay at my Girlfriends house and drive to work 3 miles one way I get 12 mpg. all city driving and the car never gets warmed up fully. I get 26-29mpg straight Interstate driving though at 65-70. City driving is very hard on these cars
