Ill be getting a new car in February and I love Mustangs, I love the current ones and I love the new ones just I cant decide which I should get, a used 03-04 cobra or get a new 05 GT. I pretty much like the body styles same ( both look great ) putting performance aside what do you think is a better car ( features, etc. ) Also do cobras tend to have lots of problems?

as powerful as a new cobra is, it even with low miles it has probably been beat on...

I would rather spend money for the zeros across the odometer

tough call. depends on what you want. both are nice cars. It is my understanding that the Cobra is very good for reliability. It will be faster than the '05. The '05, however, is all new technology from ground up. If you haven't owned a V8 sports car, I would start with the GT and trade it in a few years on the '07 or later Cobra.

75% sure id get a hard top cobra. The only way I'd get vert is if i get accepted to University of Miami and can cruise around Miami Beach with the top down just like vanilla ice

For me it's not just a performance issue. I love the new body style. I have always loved mustangs but my parents had a 64 and now a 66 stang so I guess I'm partial to the 60's stangs. Therefore I'm stuck on the look of the 05. Besides this way you get a brand new vehicle. You may pick up someones lease who never changed the oil and ran the p_ss out of it.

Besides all the great enhancements to the 05 makes it a no brainer for me.

I vote 05 all the way!

I'd go the other way. Purchase the 03-04 Cobra, as you lose your tail on purchasing any new vehicle. The Cobra will be faster with mods, and will hold it's value much better over the life of the vehicle.

I do think the 2005 looks nicer, but unless you spend a ton of money on forced induction or nitrous, it's not likely you'll be showing your taillights to the Cobra.

Plus mods to the 2005 are going to be outrageous until the aftermarket catches up...

To be honest, you can't go wrong with either choice, and there is nothing like a new car..

I would wait for the 2005 GT. It will be a better car in just about every way imaginable, except for the power difference. If you want more than 300 HP get the Cobra. It all comes down to what you want. I think the 05 will be a better car just based on the new platform alone but we don't have any road tests to back that up yet.

Sat in the 05 for 5 minutes today. The cobras are rattletrap ergonomic torture chambers. Its a nervous, unprecise driving car, even after coming into work with my foci, it feels like a cobra has all its lug nuts loose driving it around the circle. Its fast, but laboriously takes ALL of your attention to drive it. Plus the lousy shifter, impossibly heavy clutch, constantly quivering body, and vauge steering makes driving one to the beach feel like 3 hours in a fast dump truck. The Mach is the best Fox-body ever by far.

Yep. Unless you're into the power, the 2005 will be a much better car.

Cobra. I won't buy anything truly new since they drop in value so much the first year. Plus if anything is going to get recalled, it's likely going to be in '05.

I am in the same situation. Also in Miami, FL-go figure.

I am waiting for the 05 performance times and also for the Jan-March 2005 in case an SE model does come out with some factory mods. Also, would like to see what can be done with the 4.6L 3v. (My current insurance is paid off until Feb 2005 so I can wait.)

I currently own a heavily modified 1991 5.0(128000miles) and have been waiting for a new Mustang for years. The Cobra would be comparable in acceleration performance. Yeah, my old car still runs that strong!

I would say hold on for a bit longer and see what the 05 is capable of. The 05 bodystyle will be current for many years while the 03-04 Cobra will soon be an old fast car.-I know that experience already. Other folks mention collector status regarding the Cobras. I believe collectability in muscle cars hold if they are either: 1.pristine, 2.low mileage, 3.unmodified. I guess you are a young person, what are the chances of 1-3 happening in your future for the next few years?

Good Luck with UM.

Devil's Advocate: My brother is also a Mustang hot rodder and says I should go 03-04 Cobra as the 05 will be a truck. Essentially, I will be spending $28 on a car which is quite slower than mine. I really do not wish to wait until the 07 Cobra. Might wait for an 06 Cobra if there will be an 06.

While the Cobra has more motor and IRS, the rest of the ancient package is simply outclassed by the new Stang.

Yeah, I say go with the new '05 Mustang. You will kick yourself when you see them on the streets.
