Used 05's!

I did a searh for used 05 Mustang's on FordDirect's site and there are a ton of them!

Some are priced an outrageous amount but some seem pretty fair.

Given the mileages, some of them may be demos. As to the rest? Who knows? Maybe once the novelty wore off, some people found the car not as refined for daily driving as they would have liked. Maybe some found the interiors too cheap. Maybe some had a couple of problems and decided to dump 'em... Who knows?

prices are outrageous.
I found descriptions kinda funny though, in how they list what the car has. Many are like this

This vehicle has a 4.6L OHC V8 engine and an automatic transmission. It includes Carpeting, Courtesy Lights, Inside Hood Release, Cup holder, Power Outlet, Two Tone Interior, Dual Sport Mirrors, Interval Wipers, Radial Tires, Vanity Mirror, Map Lights, Tachometer, Reclining Seats, Fog/Driving Lamps, Rear Defroster, Spoiler, Anti-lock Brakes, Traction Control, Alloy Wheels, Power Driver's Seat, Power Door Locks, Power Windows, Power Mirrors, Center Arm Rest, Leather Seats, Rear Shoulder Harness, Bucket Seats, Compact Disc Changer, Trip Odometer, Tilt Steering Wheel, AM/FM Radio, Air Conditioning, Cruise Control, Clock, and Warranty.

I think they are just trying to make some it look like the car comes with a bunch of extras. I thought it was pretty ridiculous myself.

For some people it's having the newest "best thing" be it a PT Cruiser, Thunderbird, Mini or 300C. It's not stupid really. You can have a brand new car and not loose any money on it if you sell it when it's still hot. It's a gamble to be sure. But so is buying any new car.

It depends on how long the shelf life of a 'soup du jour' car is. The Mustang may not be as artificially limited production wise as the original PT was, but it has more "legs" also...it's a real car. The GT has a better potential considering the relative glut of V6s. (Nothing against the V6s, they are nice, but the speculation seems to be on the Hi Po GT Mustangs)

Probably a lot of people that didn't think about their financial situation before getting the car. A lot of dealerships (and some shady financers) will give you a loan reguardless of how much you can't afford it.

So they are riding the overpricing wave and trying to earn a buck since they have to get rid of the car anyways.

Could also be dealers trying to cash in on the new Mustang. Think about it, buy the car new when it's really popular and scarce and sell it for more than you bought it for or use it to bring people to the dealership then try to sell them a Toyota. A local used car dealership had bought a new yellow GT and sold it for $2000 over sticker as a slightly used car. Another possibility is that the person got it, saw their first payment, and said "Um, no. Let's go check out an Echo."

Perhaps its those over-zealous sales people that kept sneeking out to "test drive" the car with a blow up doll . I remember hearing about some dealerships more or less letting each salesperson test drive the thing for a day. That could could account for some of those "used" 1500 mile cars.

I wonder how many 05s have made it into the rental fleets so far. Typically they get cycled through for 20K miles or so then are auctioned off and show up on the used lots within 6 mos or so of being placed in service. That's how I got my last car - a 6 month old 2000 Bonneville for $15K. I would imagine Mustangs will be very popular rentals and pack on the miles fairly quickly, resulting in used units becoming available anytime now.

I think everybody is trying to make a quick buck since the car is in hot demand and they are still trickling out of the factory. They will probably buy replacement when supply catches up.

The real answer is simple, first of all several of those cars are obviously not used. Some are obvious demo's, but a demo is still a "new" car unless it has a lot more miles than do 90% of those on the website. And, the mileage for a lot of them leads me to believe that they were either the owner's toy for about 4 months or a dedicated demo. You also have the possibility, and it happens a lot, that some of these dealers were rolling car accross the curb with several questions about financing still up in the air.

Say a guy buys a Mustang then gets a call a week later that says "Hey, the finance company wants another $1500 down and bumped you 6 percentage points so your payment actually goes up. Often times the dealer winds up getting the car back in those cases. There are several good reasons why there are so many cars on there, the least likely of which is the person had the car a month and did not like it.
