Unless the new generation mustang is better, this may be my last

I am a die hard mustang/racing fan. My mom has worked for the director of Ford Racing for ten years, and has since instilled all of Ford Racing, and mustang knowledge upon me. Ever since I could drive, I have had a mustang. With that being said, I have never had as many problems, as I have with my 2006. I have owned a 99' mustang v6 convertible, 01' mustang GT, and a 03' mustang GT (supercharged). None of these cars gave me even one problem. The only thing I ever had to replace on any of them was maybe a tire or two. Yet with my '06, I have paint flaking off, tires that go to sh*t rather fast, a transmission that blew two solenoid heads, and the worst vibrations and rattles that I've ever experienced in a car. I have never had to spend so much on repairs in my life. The car is two years old, and only has 50,000 miles....give me a frickin break! Now unless the engineers at Ford decide to make the '10 much more substantial, I unfortunately might be trading in my '06 for something more reliable, and worth the sticker price.

I guess they still make the occasional lemon, and you must have gotten one. The majority of Mustang owners have not have nearly the amount of problems you have.

Yeah, this is the first account I've ever heard from a prior generation owner saying the S197 is less refined / worse quality.

This is my first Mustang and my only complaint so far is the paint chipping way too easily. I have more chips on it in 3 months than my SUV has in 3 years of year round driving.

I beat the living hell out of my car almost daily I personally haven't had any problems with my mustang besides rattling and squeaks but that doesn't bother me If i wanted a super quiet refined car I would have bought a Camry.

I would say it's a "lemon" for sure. I've owned an 07GT and now an 08, no problems what so ever.

That sounds unusual.

I'm almost at 30K miles with my 2005 and she's been perfect so far. Knock on wood.

I'm sorry for the troubles you've had.

Since when were the tires a Ford problem? If I may ask, which tires are "running to **** rather fast" as you put it? I got over 21K on my GT and still the original 18" BFG KDWS OEMs, I could probably make it to 25K (not bad for a Mustang GT tire), but going to Canada at end of month for MCA show, and don't want to drive 450 miles on a tire with about 4/32" left.

And one more question? If your mom works for the Director of Ford Racing (Dan Davis, I am guessing), wouldn't you get the car for A-Plan? If so, then the sticker price doesn't really matter since your getting it for employee price (plus all incentives applicable) Heck, I got a pesky rattle behind the dash when cold out, but I got the car for D-Plan, so I'm not going to complain!!!

50,000 miles in two years, is that low mileage? Dang, I put 10,000 a year on my Explorer.

Sorry for your problems. I've heard mostly good things.

Wow...if any description was less indicative of the S197 generation, I don't know what is.

You got a lemon. Plain and simple. Why is one car in umpteen-thousands the hallmark of the entire generation?

you're one of the few owners that has had many complaints. there are a few minor things here and there, covered by warranty that are a tiny bit more common, but for your types of problems, I'd say you just got a lemon

I am not sure I would say he got a lemon. Think about it. Look at all the TSB's out on the mustang. So far on mine I have had a faulty fuel pump, bad front strut (drivers side), gas tank had to be replaced, faulty global window feature (modules replaced), valves replaced on passenger side, trim molding that scratched windows (replaced with new molding that did the same thing), drivers side seat cover (leather) torn at bottom where it attaches to the frame, more squeaks and rattles that I can think of.

I would not say my issues are rare because numerous people on this forum have had the same issue. I have 2 pontiac's and neither have had to ever go in for any form of "warranty service" and I paid less for them than I did the mustang. Are these problems going to stop me from buying a mustang in the future. Probably not since it seems it happens no matter what generation I buy. However, it might sway me to buy something else like a vette.

50K mi. WOW
My daily driver just turned 30K after 5 years. (Ford with 0 problems)
If I drive my Stang (also 0 problems) like my last car, it will take me 13 years to go 30K.

My last GM car was a LEMON.
It was a loaded 1999 Buick LeSabre and saw a few trips for warranty work before 14K mi.
By 24K it was leaving a trail of oil everywhere. I called it the Buick Valdez.
By 50K the intake gaskets failed also.
My Ranger has never had anything more than an oil change at the dealer in the same amount of time.
