UK Taillights in US??

I spoke with Stig, and he mentioned that these are the tailights that are on UK models. Are these legal in the US? And can we get these is the US?
(By the Way this pic is of STIG's Mustang...Sorry to copy your pic! Love the Car!)

All mustangs in the UK are US imports. The traffic laws in the UK state that a cars taillights must have an amber light for use as the blinker/indicator. The middle one that is transparent therefore will be an amber bulb....strange it was not put on the outside.

Regardless this is just a change in the color of the plastic...how they do that I'm not sure. I can't see any reason why they would be ilegal in the US as they look just like other euro style lights.

I'm clueless on UK laws, but I think they would look a lot better and satisfy UK requirements (maybe) if the three main bars were red, and they moved the blinker bulb to the bottom right corner. That way, they could make the whole lower section clear with an amber bulb on the outside and a clear bulb on the inside for reverse. just my useless .02

Exactly Why didn't they just use amber on the lower 1/3 alongside the reverse lights like they used to on the 99/01 cobra? That would of looked sweet.

I don't like the look at all, they definitly should have gone with what you suggested with 3 red bars and a clear lower section.

They look like cat eyes, I don't care for them at all.

Thomas, I noticed you are from Tampa. Are we going to see your Cali Special this Saturday at the Mustangs & Mustangs show at Fantasy of Flight?

The rear lights on the ones they use in japan are nice. Plus they have lighted side mirror housings.

Go to the link below and you will see the difference in the rear lights and the side mirror housing with the light bar in it.

Stig's lights aren't standard on Mustangs imported into the UK. They are available as aftermarket units and are great (for us Brits) as the turn indicators are clear/orange bulb, plus the reversing lights and fog lights are incorporated into the main unit. In order to comply with UK regs, many Mustangs have small bolt on lights for the reversing and fog lights mounted under the rear bumper. Not such a good look but at least they keep the all red look.

I don't like the taillights but those side mirrors are kinda nice, adds some more unique style to it.

But those ones from the UK, well they are just not my thing.

I wonder why they don't offer the mirrors on the U.S. models. They change everything else on the factory mustang...why did they leave the ugly mirrors on the U.S. spec, but not Japan spec models.

I've gotta imagine that the market in the US is much better than Japan for these vehicles, and no one here likes the factory mirrors.

Even if they couldn't keep the turn signal in them due to SAE/DOT reasons, it would still be nice. Also, they could sell them in their parts store and probably make a mint (if priced right).

But, knowing Saleen, I bet if you call and get a knowledgeable person that works there, you could probably order them.

+1 on the mirrors.... I hate these stupid black plastic ones that come with the mustang. Muscle car or not... I would like side turners on the mirror. Not to mention the ones in japan are also painted.

I must say that amber blinkers are safer. They are far more visible in all conditions. It might not look as good, but I think that safety outweighs looks. My stang here in Kuwait has the US taillights.
