Tweaking Dougs tunes

doug said that I need a dyno in order to get a 94 octane tune. I am confused though as other users here have said that Doug sent them 94 octane tunes. So I guess I am back to doing this myself. So liek I asked yesterday it only lets me advance timing on by 1000 at a time is that what is meant by 1 degree?

I had never heard of anyone getting a 94 octane tune until you mentioned it. Honestly, I wouldn't even bother. I doubt you would gain a single horsepower from bumping the timing that small amount. Listen to Doug, put the tuner down. Just run 93 and be happy.
PS...You've gone to the wrong menu if it's adjusting by thousands.

You are reading here what rpm range your adjusting, Press select then use the up and down cursor to pick your timing + or - in degrees. Do this for +2 degrees in all rpm ranges. You should be fine.

OK advanced my timing 2 degrees was just wondering if it would have been better to go with just one degree. I drove the car around and it seems to be fine. The car seems to be more responsive and have a little more power is this something that would have accured ro am I just imagining it. Whats gains should i expect from advancing timing. And how will I know if the car is knocking or pinging i cant tell?

timing
Advancing the timing gives a more complete fuel burn making more power, the down side is too much timing will cause detonation which is an explosion in the cylinder instead of a slow burn, which looses power and will KILL your engine on the long term, burnt valves and holes in the piston. Unless your adding octane in the fuel, todays engine are operating at their peak already for emisions concerns. Higher octane decreases the point which fuel will ignite allowing more timing advance to make more power.
Be careful out there !

with just 2 degrees of advancement is there a large danger of wrecking my engine. Plus would the loss of power feel like the fuel being cut off and would it be dramatic. Also would i feel it in the lower rpms

A loss of power feeling would depend on how too much timing you`ve put into it. Rpm range would be hard to diagnoise. Did you add 2 degrees in all rpm ranges?

****itt i feel more power but cannot tell if it is detonating I guess it would probably best to take it back to what it was. plus it has been rainy like crazy in this friggin city of vancouver so I havent really had a chance to let loose and feel if it is detonating

You will hear it coming from the engine for just a second before the sensors pull timing. If it was going to ping at all, it would probably do it lower in the rpm's when you really hammer the gas.
