I was just reading through a TV Guide at work (I work for a cable company, so it's work related! ) And saw this:

"Jeers to Ford for digitally reviving the late Steve McQueen to star in its new Mustang commercial. True, the actor, who died in 1980, did drive a Mustang in "Bullitt", but couldn't Ford find a living celeb to endorse its cars?"

Geez...retro car...retro actor...get it yet?
for some odd reason i dont think will smith could sell me a mustang =p

a escalade maybe

as long as it has 400 foot rims

they should get the MArlboro man to advertise it, oh wait, I'm missing the point.....

This is all personal taste, I like the advert, I really like some of the Honda adverts, who cares what a TV guide says about an advert....... kinda of small fry in the publishing world really...

The writer of the article probably is just mad b/c his Honda insight got left in the dust at a redlight by a GT while he was eating his vegetarian burrito.

Well, if TV Guide is watching, I have not bought a TVGuide in over 20 years either.
No need for TV guide. I have digital cable that has all the channels and descriptions at the push of a button. [/b][/quote]

My grandparents still get it though.

Some people just don't get it. Jeers to TV Guide. And besides, Ford has gotten two celebs to endorse its cars: Kiefer Sutherland and Wayne Gretzky.

It's "Letters to the Editor" time, me thinks.
I'll be willing to bet the US isn't even getting the latest Ford commercial starring hockey legend Wayne Gretzky...speaking of commercials that bite. Here in Canada we still haven't seen the full cornfield commercial either on local channels or in the theaters!

The broadcasters have gone from the 15 second teasers to this Gretzky spot (I heard he's getting paid $20,000 every time it airs). I'm afraid the 'powers that be' in Canada put their heads together and thought that driving fast in a 300 horsepower car might send the wrong message. Either that or the US powers that be didn't think the dumb Canadians could relate to American icons as much as they could to a reference to hockey...duuuh...Steve who? American muscle car?...duuuh, the only legend I know from waaay up here in the Great White North is Wayne Gretzky, EH (even though Gretzky's been living in the US for the past 15 years...).

For those of you who haven't seen this cinematic gem...some kids are playing road hockey and yell out "Car!" They clear the street and the new lineup of Fords drive by...slowly...and proceed to line up (staged product shot) and as the 300 HP smokin' new cherry red Mustang slowly creeps to a stop as if driven by a 90 year old woman, one of the kids says..."Legend"...the window rolls down and Gretzky says (in the most deadpan, bad 'B-Movie' acting style delivery I have ever seen), "Were - you - talking - about - the - car ?" Then cut to Gretzky leaning on the hood after some product info saying "Ford...built for life in Canada."

All I know is if I see this embarrassing piece of junk in the movie theaters before Cornfield airs here in Canada I am going to boycott hockey...no, wait...that won't work. They beat me to it...

Air the cornfield commercial in Canada already!

Someone earilier mentioned Kiefer Sutherland. When has he endorsed Ford? I'm sure is show will earlier next year. 24, best show on television , will start the season with a 2 hour special, brought to you without commercial interruption by Ford. I'm hoping for a good 5 minute 05 Mustang ad at the beginning!

"Talking" about Abe Lincoln and digitally sticking a dead person in an advertisement to SELL a product are quite different, dont you think? I'm talking about tact...
