True Story S197 VS Mercedes SL 550

I ran a guy just a little while ago in a 2007 Mercedes SL 550.
(SL 550 model is 2007 or newer)

I've attached a representative photo of his ride as well as a real one of mine.

We were in the boonies so to speak when we first encountered one another, and he just cruised on by. I was taking it easy so I didn't think much of it. I feel bad becuase this is when we should have gone at it, where we could have really looked at some top end stuff.

This stretch was straight, flat, and unpopulated.

But I really liked the look of the car, and I knew it was high dollar so I wanted to get a closer look. I gradually made my way up to him at a light and looked over at him but he was on the phone.

He left the light and sped up a little and then went ahead of me in traffic.

I finally got beside him and honked and gave him a thumbs up.

He was off the phone and he nodded and smiled.

We were getting close to the city limits at this point.

I didn't really know if he would run (I guess you never do) but I was sure going to do my part. I was in 4th gear going 60-70.

I looked back over at him and I think he motioned with his finger or something, so we just nodded 1,2,3 and I dropped it into 3rd and hit it.

I couldn't hear anything but my car...

We were side by side .....we were dead even.

I think he was suprised...

I mean he has a $90,000 roadster with 382 HP that was born and bred on the Autobahn. (Ok, maybe not but it sounds dramatic for the purpose of this story)

I have a $30,000 +/- Mustang GT that's been to the track twice.

His car specs here

I could buy a 2007 GT 500 and a used 2006 GT covertible for the price of his car.

Anyway, back to the duel....

When I hit 4th I nudged ahead.

He ended up having a semi up ahead in his lane and he quickly turned turn of onto a service rd. He was from out of state but could have been visiting in my town for all I know.

I got off the higway pretty quickly and took the back road to where he should have been stopped. I saw a police cruiser ahead at the end of the Rd next to the highway where he should have been stopped and didn't proceed any further. I would have liked to talk to him and got his thoughts on the whole thing.

I continued the back way home. If I would have seen this I would have probably dialed the Sheriff's Department, so knowing that someone else had to notice us, I thought it best to remain unseen.

Well, that's all I've got.

Please excuse the CORN here......Chalk one up for American Muscle!

It must be the aerodynamics of my new CS/Shelby GT rear fascia that gave me the upper hand.

Oh wait, I'm an idiot, I found the weight.

So it has 11.04 lb/hp. Compared to the Mustang GT's 11.5 lb/hp. Pretty close!

As Dana Carvey as Johnny Carson would say to Phil Hartman as Ed McMahon on SNL......

"I did not know that"

Nice digging for info.

All I know is that when I let off the throttle I came down to 120.

I probably wasn't much above that though.

BTW I just saw that you had an '08 Z51. Congrats.

I was just looking at some Ferraris on Ebay for upwards of $200k and I'm thinking boy a 2008 vette with 436 HP would give 'em a run for 1/3 the cost and then I saw your sig.

Cool.

After I have my chest hair transplant, I'll get my vette.

Thanks for the reply.

Geezer

Sounds like a great day. Best part - it sounds like your mom let you stay up until 10 o'clock that night as well.

I got them on Ebay from a seller named:

Assembleweb

Here is a current list of his mustang accessories.

I got the stealth bulbs from

www.Stangmods.com

They can be had for cheaper but I felt like StangMods would take care of me if there was a problem.
