Today, I received my TripSense module from Progressive Insurance. It plugs into the diagnostics port and is supposed to monitor the car's behavior. I'm supposed to leave it on for six months and mail it back to Progressive afterwards. In return, Progressive will send me $50 for testing their product.

According to them, their goal is to try and lower insurance rates by studying the characteristics of each car. Hopefully, they don't raise mine, as I often go 80-90 on the freeways.

They have those up here in Ontario. Basically you can get it for free and save money if you drive safely. They say they wont charge you more if you drive dangerously, but I wouldnt be surprised to see your rates jump the next year if you did. If you have that thing on your car, drive like an angel.

Please don't let them test that. It's just an invasion of privacy. First insurance companies are planning on using them for high risk drivers (lots of tickets and wrecks.) so they can be insured. Then they plan on forcing EVERYONE to have one installed in order to be insured. Why is it any of their business on how I drive as long as i'm not ticketed and don't get in accidents.

I totally agree!
We are heading for a new world, where monitoring of all citizens through a one-world currency isn't that far off.
I would avoid this like the plague.

Hello Jeremy. This is your Progessive Insurance agent. We have been monitoring your driving and you have been speeding. :nono: Please don't force us to raise your rates again. We want to be your friend. When our insured speed it makes us very angry, and you wouldn't want us to get angry now would you Jeremy? Be careful Jeremy. Be very careful.

Sharing your driving data with Progressive can never make your rates go higher or cause your policy to be cancelled.
Liar! I'm sorry, but everyone's rates went up. Yours went up because we see through our data that Mustang drivers tend to be more aggressive than other cars. We're sorry.

This is the first step to screwing everyone that drives a car.
