<center>Train, cars catch fire
Apparent arson causes $1 million damage</center>
INDUSTRY -- Arson is suspected in a fire that charred a freight car Monday morning, causing about $1 million in damages.

The train was parked on Bonelli Street and 7th Avenue. The freight car that burned carried 15, 2005 Ford Mustangs.

The train was "sitting for several days' on a side spur, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Ed Osorio.

The department received the call at 3:06 a.m., and the fire was extinguished in about an hour.

There were no injuries, officials said.

Osorio said six engines, one truck company, a hazardous materials team, a heavy Urban Search and Rescue unit, one paramedic unit, one patrol unit and an emergency support team rig responded to the scene, as did a sheriff's arson investigator, a battalion chief, Union Pacific police and a Union Pacific representative.

Osorio said there was $500,000 in damages to the rail car and $500,000 in damage to the Mustangs. He said the cars were probably heading to an auto dealer in Los Angeles, but did not know for sure.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation by sheriff's arson investigators.

I am sure there would not be 15 2005 Mustangs sitting in a railcar in LA, i'll bet they are 2004's

Yeah I would bet they are 2004s. And also the $500,000 is just a rounded estimate.

 

I'm also betting that they were actually 2004's not 2005's. The assmebly track at AAI is still in the testing phase.

 

i hope they were 2004's
maybe it was the radical environmental group that hit los angeles some months ago. they burnt down and graffitied some hummers in car lots. The irony of their vandalism was that the damage (smoke from the burning hummers) hurt the environment more then the hummers would have ever done. even though i hate hummers and think they shouldnt be on the streets, that was very idiotic

But 15 05's does sound a bit unlikely.

 

I think they were 04s and the article is wrong. Did Ford even make 15 05s?

 

I'm going to say they are 2004s as well. 15 less to scratch off the limited dealer supply list. I just hope they weren't customer ordered cars.
