Everyone in this forum is waiting to see what the final version of the Shelby will look like when it goes on the market, and a lot of you already have a 05 GT. So I have two questions: First, how many of you plan to trade your 05 GT (which all of us seem to love) in on a new Shelby? And the second question is why?

Ron, it looks like you were one of the first GTs off the line, and since you are obviously not afraid to bolt on mods (you have one sweet looking ride already) what's the advantage of getting the GT500. You could mod your 05 GT and blow it off the street. IMO the one they showed at the New York auto show didn't look all that different from our car, so is it just the "new" or "Shelby" factor that gets you fired up?

MSRP for the Shelby is supposed to be in the low $40k range, but "dealer market adjustment" due to the scarcity of the car (only 7k units) will most likely push it into the 70-80k range. I have no interest in one simply for that matter, but I believe it will be very entertaining to see this battle shape up over the next 6-12 months. In the mean time, I will be enjoying my GT vert.

I don't think pricing will be the deal breaker, although a $30-40 mark-up would throw a bucket of cold water on my dream. I don't think you'll be able to get close enough to one to bid on it. They'll be gone before they exist.

You will get raped on your trade in. Why? because you want to buy a car that will be in high demand and they can lo ball you on the trade because they know you want the Shelby. Even though the Mustang you trade in will be something they can sell, they will still lo-ball you because if you don't buy it, someone else definitely will.

Well my dad had been very excited about it and had been planning to purchase but after seeing the pre-production he changed his mind. He prefered my cars insturment pannel over SVT's and missed the red and black two tone seets. Also he was very dissapointed in the hood. I still like the car very much but ford broke it down a notch from what it used to be at sema.

I think you are dead on with this ---- hopefully it will work for some people, but I think that will be the case more often then not

For the price differential (+ markup), I'm just gonna mod my GT to blow a Shelby out of the water. My plans call for a S/C and corresponding drivetrain and brake upgrades down the road. Look at it this way, a 26K GT vs. a 40-50K Shelby - that leaves 14-24k for modding the GT. Imagine what you can do for 24K?

I am not going to mention dealer names for the sake of being sued later...but..
My buddy has a signed downpayment contract on "2007 Shelby Cobra - First dealer allotment car". He put 10 large down. I am sure (because of this dealer) he will get screwed later but the cotract states "balance of MSRP upon reciept of vehicle". This dealer is an SVT, Presidential Award, 4 star...blah...blah....dealer so his allotment is (per last dealer letters) 4 cars.
Again...will see if it happens....atleast my budday has a "signed" contract to take to court when they won't sell him the car.

I was seriously thinking about trading up for a Shelby. So far I see nothing on the car that says "have to have it!" which means I'll be rocking the GT for a few years. By the time I'm done I'll probably have a much more unique whip.

Kind of on topic, but one of the ford dealerships here in 2000 was selling a 2000 cobra R for $91,000 dealer asking price, which i believe was a $40k market value adjustment, needless to say they held onto that car for almost a year and ended up unloading it for 60 somin thousand, but thats still like a 10-15k adjustment. The shelby is also going to be a much better car, so i can only imagine what some of these markups will be. This is the reason my dad decided he will be getting a saleen 281e, because they will both end up bein around the same price.

You will loose a lot on the trade in (unless your lease is up, in which case you wouldn't get anything down on the Shelby), and you will loose even more on the dealer markups on the Shelby.
All this for a car that looks way too much like a V6 with what looks like it will be an evo-style ricer hood?
No thanks.
If I want the upgraded performance, I would do it aftermarket and save a ton of cash.
