Well, I was driving my brother's Saturn ( ) a few weeks ago and the Traction Control was off... As I took a corner a little to fast on a wet street, the TC popped on and completely freaked me out! I was expecting to have to compensate for a wide turn, but the car behaved like it was on dry pavement...which is what the TC is for and this brings me to my question...

Does anyone know when you turn off the TC on a Mustang, will it re-activate if you pull some driving that is a bit 'edgy'?

No...it stays off

This ain't a Saturn...
The car will let you kill yourself if you want to.

It will however turn back on when you restart the car. (Unless you modify it to be off upon startup)

Is there a button for on/off on the traction control?

TCS.......I wish by default it was off and you had to turn it on, instead of the other way around.

Its honestly not a BIG deal at all...
Start car, turn off TCS (all part of the ritual)

Anyway...the writeup says this new TCS is a bit smarter.
It'll let you burn out...and even kick the end out a bit.
It can apparently tell between having fun and slipping in snow.

I haven't driven a Mustang with TC. I assume it just regulates power to the wheels, applies left or right brake (actually, with a live rear axle I guess it doesn't have to do that), and regulates throttle? There are some that punish you and back off major for a 1/2 second or second. Others that just sort of feather things so you feel like you have less power, but don't really have a back-off lag (if that makes sense).

My BMW will stall the motor trying to get going on ice. It will regulate the throttle down to death. (Gee thanks). Other than that, it helps in slush/ice. So how annoying is the TC in the Stangs? (And is it better in the 2005)?

The current Mustang traction control works by using the brakes, pulling timing, and then pulling fuel -- usually in that order, as necessary to stop wheel spin. It's generally not violent unless it pulls fuel, which I've only experienced if I'm being silly and really romp on it without remembering to disable TCS.

I've heard that the 05's TCS is a bit more advanced.

I have traction control on our Intrepid R/T. And if the roads are dry, the routine is exactly like Boomer listed - start the car, turn off traction control.

But if the roads are wet, I leave it on. The Michelin MXM's are great on dry, but so-so on wet pavement.

With the 242HP V6, I can tell a definite difference from a full stop between traction control on/off.

I'll do the same with the GT - off when dry, on when wet.

Dave, I was told that the Stang will pull fuel before it puts on the brakes...

then again, I don't know if that was from a credible source.

I think this has been discussed more than once. How hard is it to turn it off??? You simply push the button. No big deal to me. Its not like you take any more effort in doing that than changing the radio station or putting in a cd. Good lord no wonder our country is full of lazy fatties.

Before long, an aftermarket company will sell a module that plugs in to eliminate the TC at startup or maybe reverse it where you have to turn it on.

Yeah, My 325is did the same thing. Actually it went haywire on me once or twice going over a bumpy road, and just killed the power to engine. Talk about annoying and dangerous.

no!!!! when its off, its def off, had the same thing in my 02 stang, i accidently took it off at the racetrack when i was runnin 1/4 miles, its started to rain, left the track, coming home, took a turn too hard and spun, it was fun thought but I still could have hit a pole, so once ut push the button off, it stays off until you press it again or u turn off the car

Sometimes I like to have fun IN the snow. Gotta learn how to drive in the snow somehow.

Just make sure there is nothing buried in the snow that can mess up your car.

I've heard it a few different ways, but the most credible source gave me the brake, timing, fuel order. Who knows...

I do know that the TCS will quickly give up if you try hard enough, it seems to realize that you want the tires to spin . Not that I've ever tried that as an experiment or anything .
