(Oops...should say Tracking AN order!)

My dealer has given me the VIN for the car I've ordered, although he said he didn't have an order number.

Can anyone tell me how to track the order with the VIN?

You have to call ERL (and before you ask I deleted that number after I got my car) and follow the prompts.
If I remember correctly the system asks for-
Dealer Code: code on DORA and Order Confirmation Forms are 5 numbers and 1 letter, take off the letter and you have the code.

Order Number or VIN)...it's my experiance that it's almost impossible to get the computer to understand the letters/numbers of the VIN you say over the phone...in fact the system NEVER worked when I tried to use the VIN for order status, so you would be better off tracking down the order number and use that when checking on order status.

Body Code: T-82 for GT, T-88 for V-6 (not sure of the code for other models)

The order number is available weeks before a VIN is assigned. Ask him to find out what the order number is because the ERL doesn't recognize VIN #s very well when you're trying to check status.....but it's simple with the order number. Used to take me 2 minutes to get an update on my order using ERL with the order number. You could also speak to an analyst on the ERL line and *ask* them for the order number, but then they'd pretty much figure out that you weren't a Ford dealer calling.
