Driver Walks Away After Car Flips, Crashes
Man Injured Slightly After Car 'Flattened'
POSTED: 7:27 am CDT August 8, 2005
CHICAGO -- The driver of a car that flipped over several times on Interstate 57 Sunday night was able to walk away from the crash with only a minor gash on his head, fire officials said.
The 2005 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on I-57 near 111th Street at around 10:15 p.m. Sunday when the driver somehow lost control and the car flipped over several times, according to fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.
The car struck a light pole and a tree and then came to rest on the shoulder, he said.
"The car was basically flattened," Langford said. "It was on its roof, and not more than 3 feet tall when we got there."
The driver was able to get out of the car after the crash and was seen walking and talking at the scene, Langford said. He refused medical attention for a minor cut on his head, Langford said.
A car came and picked up the driver at the scene and the occupants drove away after speaking to police and paramedics.
The man told fire officials that he had "been through worse," having served in the military, Langford said.
Langford said the car was likely traveling "pretty fast" when the man lost control.
Illinois State Police spokesman Steve Tufenkjian said no citations would be issued in the accident.

Oh brother, here we go again. What does having a solid axle have to do with this wreck? Do you know something the driver doesn't ?.......perhaps you ARE the driver !

only thing I have to say. Driving fast is fun, but you have to know your limits. when you don't, crap like that happens. but what can you do, maybe he had no way of avoiding it. that is why they are called accidents

Instead of turning this into another plea for the IRS, you should commend Ford and Team Mustang for building a safe car that allowed someone to walk away unscathed!

A car rolling over has nothing to do with the SRA. If anything, a SRA is better for stability because the camber and toe are always perfectly aligned to the ground independent of wheel travel. This driver most likely went off road and his wheels dug into the ground.
