tips for potential 05-09 'stang buyer?
Thanks for all the input folks!
Right now I'm leaning toward an 08 or 09 Bullitt, '09 if I can find one . . . I like the sleeper aspect of it, that the engine makes the same power as the '10 and it has the suspension improvements also. I'm surprised you didn't suggest a Bullitt Charliehorse, you must really like that 'vert! (unfortunately a convertible doesn't work for me because I don't have a garage and it would kill me to see ice and snow packed on top of the rag top.)
Does the rear end gearing make a big difference in gas mileage? I doubt this car will ever see a track (though that would be fun) and I think it will have more than enough get-up-and-go with the standard gearing (3.31?) so I don't think I really need the 3.73's, and I'd rather have the gas mileage of the taller gearing if it makes a difference. (yes I know the Bullitt only comes with 3.73 rear)
thanks again!

You won't notice a diff in mileage with the 3.73's, and IMO they're needed to match the 5 speed for two lane twisties so you can keep the rev's up in the power band. Keeping the rev's up balances the Bullitt better in the hard turns with less understeer.
Wait till the release of the 2011's to buy an 05-09 the price of the 4.6L engines will take a hit. Should save you some money there. Mileage is good if you stay off of it, but it will have plenty of power and there are so many mods to do it hurts looking at my computer screen determining whats next.

thanks again everybody
I looked at an '08 Bullitt this weekend, loved it, I have to say that will be my choice if I end up going with a used 05-09 model. I was a little confused though about why they put such a high end stereo in that car, the sound of the engine/exhaust is probably the only thing I'll ever want to listen to!
I'm not picky about color, though I'll probably stay away from the real bright "please give me a speeding ticket" colors . . . and I've had black cars before and I know that I won't spend the time to keep it clean enough to look really good so black would not be my first choice . . . and yes the red interior is super sharp.
The only drawback I realized is that they didn't put in the bluetooth/sync until 2010 . . . I know that seems silly in a car like this, but with all of the hands-free cell phone laws coming in, and the fact that I often use my 1-hour commute for conference calls, it is a point in favor of the 2010's.
I think for now I am going to wait and see what happens with the incentives on the reamaining 2010's, and also what that does to pricing on used over the next month or so . . . the suspense is killing me, but good things (sometimes) come to those who wait!

Thanks for the advertisement Charliehorse!
But seriously... you would love my vert, John. GREAT price! I'll deliver! I've never been to New England!

Ron, good point about the headset, I use one of those now, does the job, though dialing is almost like texting . . . the Bullitt is saaweeet . . .
Cody, I do like the looks of your 'vert, but I just couldn't stand leaving it outside in the snow up here.
patience, patience . . .

hi again, thanks again for your previous input, so I'm still waiting for the 2011 but still looking for a good deal on a used one in the mean time, and I really like the 08/09 Bullitt . . . two new related questions:
1) is anyone familiar with the "FRPP Hot Rod cams" -- good, bad or indifferent? Would these be a good mod to an '08 Bullitt? (found one on e-bay that has these installed)
2) what is the deal with factory warranty on used cars sold from a private party? For example, on a 2008 Bullitt . . . does the remaining factory warranty automatically transfer to the second owner, or does a dealer need to do something to transfer the warranty?
thanks again in advance!

I think the dealer needs to transfer an extended warranty. The 3/36 and 5/50 powertrain is automatically transferred. Someone else might have more info.
Be careful with the cams. If they weren't installed by an authorized dealer/installer it might void the 5/50 powertrain warranty, if something goes wrong with the engine.

For me it had to be a Sonic Blue GT. Obviously being the 1st run s197's it doesn't have all the bells and whistles the later models came with which would've been nice but it had to be a Sonic!

Hi, I am in Douglas which is south of Worcester, right at the corner of Connecticut and Rhode Island . . . about 1 hour from Springfield . . . I was thinking of a later year but might be tempted for a good deal, PM me and let me know what you're thinking, thanks

Where are you with your decision process? I am doing the same mental math as you, and have still not decided. Drove a 2007 4.6 GT today, the sound was unbelievable. Going to look at 2011 V6 numbers next week. I'm not sure I can do it after hearing the V8.

funny you say "mental math" . . . I am a bit ****-ytical so I actually have a weighted decision matrix spreadsheet comparing all kinds of factors . . . but the bottom line is "it's a tie" between a nice used GT at a good price versus a new V6, or it can go either way depending on how much I value fuel efficiency versus V8 torque and sound
but I think right now the key is to be patient, I have a feeling that when the new 5.0 hits the lots, a lot of the Mustang faithful are going to unload their older GT's, which could make it a buyer's market . . . in the mean time, I'm drooling over both the articles about the new V6 and all the Bullitts I can find on e-Bay and Edmunds . . .
