Ticket question

So I got a ticket today, and the police officer put that my car was a 2000 ford 2dr silver car. However the car is a 2007. Can I get the ticket dismissed with this error?

I think it would depend on how big the error is. If he noted the car he ticketed was a 2 door silver car and got the year wrong I don't think it's that big of difference in my opinion. Now if he had ticketed you and listed your car as a 4 dr silver car then that's a huge difference. I don't think because he got the year wrong is a means to dismiss your ticket.

In Alberta the year of the vehicle is put on the bottom of the ticket on the officer's copy when the ticket is written out. Every thing below the speed line is for the officer's information only such as year of vehicle, make, colour, licence year etc. When the driver's copy (yellow) is removed from the ticket book none of the information on the offier's copy is shown on the driver's copy. As such we don't have many traffic tickets fought on the ground of wrong vehicle year. Any imperfections above the speed information line usually will get a ticket tossed.

It's gonna come down to the plate number being correct. No harm in trying though.

Yea if its just one typo with everything else right I doubt it will mean anything. Now if it were a murder case, you're an illegal alien, and they got your middle initial wrong, you're good to go

That may be something to look into as opposed to the year. "Silver car," that is not very descriptive, could have been the guy in front of you in the silver car.

as a police officer, your not going to get away with it because he wrote the wrong year. he has your information, he has your registration which all the correct information was sent to the courts. a ticket is like a scatch piece of paper. the real documentation is what the computer prints off the system from DMV with your license plate/registration number.

pay the ticket

I was in an accident earlier this year and was called as a witness against the guy who hit me. His lawyer wanted to know if my name was miss spelled or the address wrong on the summons , so apparently he thought he could get it dismissed. I would go the the first hearing and see if the cop even shows up , while I was waiting I saw several people have their case dismissed because the cop didn't show up ...

just go pay it, its easier to get it reduced than to fight it, just go, and explain your story, and theres a good chance that you can get it reduced

One of the great things about asking a question on the Internet is that eventually you will get the answer you want.

Q: "Should I invest my paycheck playing the lottery?"
A: "I know this guy. His friend's girlfriend's uncle's neighbor did that and won a million dollars."

In answer to the OP's question: I think you should take it to court, but I sure wouldn't want to rest my entire case with the judge on a typo. (I think the odds would be better playing the lottery.)

Tell your insurance company it's a 2000 and lower your rates!

Not to mention you have the officer's testimony on top of the scrap of paper. Was the ticket for something he wasn't doing?
