three questions
three questions
I haven't really contrubuted much to this fourm, but I try to be positive and help people if and when I can. Having said that, I've got three questions.
Since we're several years into the S197, I assume it's maturing somewhat.
I'm figuring that enough time had elapsed and the answers are "known" at this point.
I done the "search" but couldn't find the answers redily...
First:
What is the maximum rear tire width anyone has put on a their car (with out any modifications or rubbing)? I'm running 285's, and haven't had one single issue. What about 295's, 305's, or 315's? Stock width is 9.25", 285's are 11.25", 315's would be about 12.4"
Second:
Back in the summer of 05, when I was looking for aftermarket wheels and tires, I was thinking of going to a shorter OD tire in front than in back. I ended up with front and back as close to 27" as possible because people said that if you go smaller up front the traction control system would detect the rotational difference and it would be constantly trying to "compensate". Has anyone put, say, a 25" OD tire on the front and left a 27" OD tire on the back?
Third and final:
Has anyone done a comprehensive review of the various "tuning" tools? At this point I would think there would be a clear winner in that one of the tools would be far and away the most versitale/ best bang for the buck.
Like I said, I've done searches on the topics above... there's so much information, yet I'm not able to find what I'm after. If someone has answers or could post a link, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
sam

#3: SCT Pro Racer Package. It does not get any more versatile than this although it helps if your dealer is more willing to help you out with the hardware and value files.
First Question- the widest tire you would probably be able to put would be 295's . You might be able to get away with 305's without any mods to the suspension. for the front, i wouldnt go any smaller than the stock 235's
Metroplex,
Thanks man, I'll look into the SCT. Anyone else have any preferance?
Classix,
Just for clairification, I was thinking of going to something like a 255/35-18 in the front, and a 315/35-18 out back. The front would be 10" wide and the OD would be 25". The back would be 12.4" wide and 27" tall.
Presently, I'm running a 255/45-18 in the front and a 285/40-18 in the back. The front would be the same width, but 2 inches shorter at 25" OD. The rear would still be the stock 27" tall, yet would be 1.2" wider that the 11.25" of the 285's, at 12.4 inches wide.
When I put the 285's on, the clearance from the tire rubbing anything on the inboard side of the tire/suspension was at least an inch. If you put a wider tire on a wheel, and it's an inch wider, then you'll end up with 0.5 of an inch wider on each side... I should still have at least a half inch of clearance with the 315. Granted half an inch isn't much. I could always put a wheel spacer on then the outboard edge might rub on the fender lip. I might have to trim the fenter liner or something.
I was mainly looking for people that have acutally ran or attempted to run 315's to see what their experiance was.
Thanks guys...
