Went to my dealer this morning to shoot the breeze and compare notes, so to speak. My salesman had a meeting with managment and the owner just this morning. Evidently, Ford hasn't exactly been forthcoming about he nature of the delay, but here's what we have so far....

We're all in agreement that: There is a quality hold, and lots (read: 1000s) of cars are affected. Three were supposedly en route to my dealer at the begining of the month, one of which was mine. After they didn't arrive, the run sheets showed a status of "SHP to CONVOY" (the kiss of death) with a re-scheduled delivery date of 10/18 (week) which has now changed to simply "TBD" (to be determined). These cars no longer have arrival dates. When Ford is convinced the problem has been resolved, they will ship them, but when that will be is anyone's guess, and likely not before early November.

The good news: The problem has absolutely NOTHING to do with the engines.

That bad news: It's it more than just generic shipping "delays" and IUP shortages. The cars on quality hold were already built and ready to ship when they were called back.

The  news: So my dealer claims to have been told that the problem is with a weld on the rear part of the frame. Says that there was an error in the way the line was calibrated for a large batch of cars, and that the affected vehicles were not fitting together correctly, and the ride suffered dramatically as a result (back ends were producing a ton of vibration).

He seemed a bit skeptical of the story himself, as was the owner of the dealership, but for now, that is the story as they've been told....

In any event, the wait continues

:bang:

hmm I think I remember reading a review saying something about a vibration during a test drive on one of the preproduction models (?)

Well, if that is true, then the NVH rumors from the rear of the car, and the weld rumors are valid. I wonder what Ford is doing to rectify the problem? It will be a nightmare to coordinate manually welding the bodies on the affected units. It may be of little consequence to those affected, but at least Ford isn't shipping out 1000+ recalls.

At least this does sound plausable. But it does make me wonder what they are going to do with the 5000+ that were on this hold.... Especially when mine was one of them. Momma always said to never buy a first year model....Looking like I shoulda took mama's advice.....

I wonder how to figure out if mine was one of the held ones. Produced date 10/8 #6620. Have any "detectives" out there been able to figure out on what date the problem was discovered?

Since some have actually received their Stang, I wonder what changes the plant made (and why) to create this new possible defect.

Or I wonder if those that already received theirs are havng/going to have problems.

I'm wondering the same thing. I've seen some really low numbers out there 800-2000 at dealers and I've seen members from 5000 up getting theirs. I guess it could have been a problem for a couple of days only.

Maybe some n00b fooled with the calibration on one of the bots.

Just spoke to my dealer & he called the ramp in Newark, NJ & my car has not shown up yet. Shipped 10/2, 3 weeks sounds too long to get to NJ. My vin is 2052, & I was built 9/18. What's up Ford?

My VIN last six digits: 102104. I was told today it has been released from hold, and it is now awaiting a rail car......of which there seems to be a shortage!

when i spoke to my dealer today they told me my car should be here in a couple days and they were having shipping problems so this could be true about the rail cars

Folks, you're not going to believe this, BUT MY CAR JUST SHOWED UP.

My dealer was as shocked (and p.o.'d, considering this morning's "cover" story) as I was. In addition to my Redfire GT, they got a black GT and a torch V6. I take her home tomorrow afternoon

So the long and short of it is this. These quality holds may NOT be the kiss of death. If my case is any indication, they are fixing and shipping as they go, which means we may all have our 05's before November gets here.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go generate a pin number

Let us know if you encounter any problems with the car (even if not the supposed rear-end vibration) there could be something else, but hopefully it is all cool.

Congrats!!! Can't wait to get mine (spring).

My order went to "SUBMITTED TO PLANT" on 10/15, then went to "TEMP HOLD" on 10/20, then back to "SUBMITTED TO PLANT" on 10/22.

I don't think I'll trust a darn thing the order status says, and just wait for the stupid car to arrive.

I hear ya man. In 2002 I walked in off the street & the dealer showedme a Stang that they had on order. He mad me a copy& wrote the figures at the bottom. I called leter that day, after I got home & talked it over with my grandpa, & told them I wanted it. They called MI & told them that they had the car sold. Well, it took 3 months to get the car made & for the last 3 weeks they told me it was on the truck being delivered.

The funny part was that at the time I worked at a truck stop. I know how the truckers drive. And there is NO way it took 3 weeks to get from MI to Tennessee. I don't care how many cars they had to deliver ahead of mine. So, I think that someone is just not communicating very well. JMO.

Anywhoo. Good luck with everything. Cheers mates
