Hmmm. Not sure what you are talking about. As shown in the pic, the top is electrically controlled and hydraulically actuated. The components are not very heavy, and the only part over the rear axle is the pump. Just FYI.

Since I haven't torn mine down to the extent of this photo and I haven't found a maintenance manual yet, I was only repeating what I was told by the dealership, I was told there were two motors, I assumed they were electric. My bad. I have seen the additional bracing for the frame since I've been under the car several times as well as my brother's coupe. Though technically the actuator assembly and motor are not directly perpendicular to the axle, the rear axle is seeing most of the weight of this system. Close enough for horseshoes and hand grenades.

The only thing that matters is the top goes down!

Ditto, that's a [adjective] idea.

I have a hard top and I ALWAYS ride with the windows down when it's just me.
When I purchased the car I thought my wife would be in the car more. She tends to be more of a window up person so I bought the hardtop. However, she is rarely in my car and now I regret not getting a vert. I'm in southern Louisiana and it's always hot, but I think I'd ride with the top down most of the days of the week if i had one. So long story short, if you are debating, get the vert.

Seeing some beautiful verts here. Thanks!

Nice coupe Eduardo; I know having the top down messes up that hair

Well here's our vert.

If you are even slightly curious, go with the vert. You won't regret it.

Wow, lots of responses! lol

Before I bought my current coupe back in summer of '06, I rented a vert from Hertz for about 2 weeks. V6 (bleh).

I'd love to be able to put the top down, but at the same time I'm reluctant to give up that coupe style and mod-ability. Plus:

- Here in northern VA the weather isn't great all year round. In fact, half the year it totally sucks.
- It's my only car.
- I don't have a garage, just a car-port (roof).
- I frequently drive into D.C. rear and side visibility is a must!

Of course, if Ford would get their butts in gear on that HARD-TOP convertible...!!!

I would DIE! I've been wanting a Hardtop Convertible since they came out with the removable hardtop in 1995 on those select few 499 Black/Sadle/Black Cobras...

It's everything I could ever dream of in Mustang body line. You keep that agressive hood line but get to enjoy the luxury of top down driving!!! Tell me you can beat that!

How could you lower your payment by getting a new car?

By getting a trade-in price for more than I have left to pay off, and using the surplus to put a big down payment on a new 'Stang.

Ahhh. You can see why I didn't go into accounting. I vote coupe, btw. I'd get a vert if it were any other car, but on the stang I think it takes away from the overall look of the car. Just my opinion.

I really enjoyed my '67 convertible Mustang back when I was in college. In fact, I really regret selling it, but had to at the time. However, I am very glad we chose the coupe. Nothing says Mustang more than that sloping back. That is the car's trademark signature, imho.

Yeah, it's a VERY tough decision. It's not like "should I choose x size wheels" or something. You can't have both a vert and a coupe in the same car! lol (Unless Ford gets off their butt and puts out a hard-top vert....*second cry*)

Last night the power went out bc of a storm, so no computer, no TV, so I grabbed my stack of Mustang books and was paging through all the pictures of classic and new 'Stangs by flashlight. That fastback style really scores big, doesn't it? I think vert is starting to lose the war, and I'm tracking towards another coupe.

One thing's for darn sure....vert or coupe...it's gonna be a manual!

I had (and have) good reasons to go AT, and I'll probably regret not having that convenience on my first trip into DC with it...but trying to have fun with the AT without feeling like you're tearing the crap out of it is next to impossible! Plus...I'd kinda like to drop a turbo in, sometime in the future...

Go for the vert. I'm just over the river in MD, and the weather is definetely nice enough 8 months of the year for top down. Those 65 degree January days are an added bonus with a vert. You can always run with the heat/air on if the temp isn't just right.

There is no substitute for the feel of open air driving.
