Think I can get this out?

So my neighbor last night knocked on my door at 9:30 and said that he saw a truck back into my car last night and then drive off. Thinking I was going to find half of my bumber missing, it turns out it is just some paint transfer and scuff marks. However, I have never had to remove such a large scuff mark before. I have done little ones on my other cars with just some paint buffer product and elbow grease. What do you guys think us the best way to get it out? I can't see any other damage besides the paint, I will crawl under the car today and make sure nothing else is broken.

Any thoughts?

I have been wanting to clay the whole car, so I might give that a try.

I think you could probably get most of that out.

Since it's on the bumper you have to be careful if you're thinking of using a machine to polish. In fact unless you know what you're doing I would advise against it... it's easy to burn paint on bumpers if you're not careful.

By hand you could try using Meguiars Scratch-X. It does pretty well by hand. You could also use other polishes by hand, but that's the only one I've had any success with.

If I were fixing it, I would start with scratch-x and see how far that took me. If it didn't do it, then I would move to a light polish on my rotary and see if that worked.

A clay bar will not remove that! If it's paint transfer from the truck you can get it off, if your paint is scratched badly - well paint is the only way.

Try a light rubbing compound or a scratch remover. You will see quickly if it's working. Rub gently.

also keep an eye out for that truck. I would make a police report ASAP.

I use my porter cable DA (7424) on the entire car once a year to get all the swirls out and i can almost guarantee id be able to get that scuff out with my machine. Try some of the Meguiars ultimate compound (if not by machine then by hand), or meguiars scratch-x. The only thing clay bar does is remove bonded contaminants from the surface of the paint. It probably wont do much of anything to that scuff. start with the compound. and remember...if you dont succeed, try and try again.

when you compound a car you are literally taking off a very thin layer of clearcoat. what you want to hope for with the scuff is that there is still clearcoat left under the paint transfer. if there is, youll be able to buff it out. dont forget to follow up with a good wax because unprotected paint is unhappy paint ahahaha

This is my exact recommendation as well. Do what Imatk said.

I used to manage a hand car wash and I would use a very fine compound to get that out. I can only see what is in the photo (i.e. I can't get close enough to tell if the truck dug into your paint or not), but it looks like that should come out no problem. Get a microfiber towel and some fine grit compound and rub it out (<-- that's what she said) in a circular motion. If it doesn't work, then move up to a stronger compound. Then when the scuff is gone, wax it, and you should be good!
