Besides the back tire. are these the same as the front on the gt500? If so, these tires are very cheap in term of cost. Would think the gt500 came with more expensive tires.

 

Yup, those are the fronts. The rears are 285/40/18. What sucks is that there is not a large selection for the rear.

These tires suck in the cold. Not sure what I will go with when they need replacing but widened rear rims and 315s would be nice if they fit. The price however is a eyewatering $400+

As you mentioned, there are better tires out there but there is not much choice due to the odd rear size.

 

^^ I think the tires are pretty **** good. I was surprised by the cold weather traction actually.

Ugh, these tires always get a bad rap. For the price your paying at tirerack, it's a steal. They are an excellent summer tire, grip like mad, and actually decent in the cold (but you can't expect much from a summer tire such as this). Check out the prices of the other sizes (other than 255 and 285), the 295 rear widths are 345 bucks a piece, and and that's about what these tires are worth in relation to similar tires. The only reason i can come up with why the 255's and 285's are "on sale" is because they come stock on the gt500, so they probably have many in stock, or something of that nature. Either way, for the price, you can't beat this summer tire.
