I remember when the 94's came out and how cool I thought it was, but at the time was not too interested in actually buying one. I also did not have internet so I wasn't able to do web searches like we can now.

Was there as much excitement over the 94 as there has been for the 05's?

I wonder how much the internet has played a part in the craziness since back in 94 not nearly as many people had the net as they do now.

"it is what is was" What a great tag line.

You would have to go back to 1964 when the 65 came out.

It doesn't compare to now. Not even close. I think there was more excitement for the '99 Cobra and the '03 Mach 1 than for the '94s.

I dont remember anything big about the 94, when I saw the 99 I was smitten, but not like this. I bought my 99, loved it, but when I saw the concept of the 05 it became an obsession.

BTW, I have been on the internet since 93. Believe me, it was NOTHING like it is now! Met my now husband on a BBS in 95.

I don't think the 94 has anywhere near the excitement that the 05 does, but I think the internet plays a very interesting role in that forums like this really didn't exist back then. Bulletin Boards were far more common than websites.

Our dealer told us we were next to be pulled, after this one I guess.

It was a big deal for car guys and especially Mustang enthusiats, but it wasn't anywhere near what it is for the '05. You have to remember we were thrilled to get anything since just a few years earlier they almost canceled our beloved Mustang. Today, even the general public is excited about the new design.
Ford ran a huge ad that included a pull out poster in big newspapers. I still have a couple of them laying around.
I wasn't in the market for one so I don't know if there were any markups in the begining or not.

I'm probably one of the only 'Stangers left that can remember all the debuts. In 1965, I ordered my first one. I lived in Milpitas (by San Jose, CA) where the Ford Assembly Plant was located. I ordered a Silver Smoke Gray 289 2+2 fastback. I had to wait a little over 3 months for that one. I think the window sticker totaled $3,500.00 give or take a couple bucks. Here's a link to all the options you had to consider back then. http://www.ariakristen.com/mustang/history/1965.htm

In 1994, I bought a GT off the lot. It was about this time of year and there were many to choose from. No shortage at all.

On a scale of 1 to 10, here's how I would rate the difference between the debut of each model.

1965 - 10

1994 - 7

2005 - 10+

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ordered 1/7
Sched. build week 2/28
Built 3/2
As of 3/4, released by the foreign assembly plant
As of 3/6, shipped via rail carrier

2005 2dr Coupe GT Premium; Satin Silver Metallic; Dark Charcoal
5 Speed; IUP; Anti-Theft; Side Air Bags; Bullitts; Shaker 1000

------------------------------------------------------------------------
1965 289 4 Speed 2+2 Fastback Silver Smoke Gray

1994 302 5 Speed Black 2dr. Coupe

Motor Trend named the 1994 Mustang GT their "Car of the Year."

Motor Trend did the Chevy Vega in the 70's, their award has never ment anything to me since.

I'll take excpetion to that. I agree that the 05 has generated more buzz, but most of that owes to advances in communications technology and the more rapid diffusion of information and, by implication, enthusiasm about the 05. Don't forget that the Pony had just beaten a death sentence back in 94 (may the Probe R.I.P.) Better to think in terms of counterfactuals. Don't simply ask which one generated more buzz. Ask whether the 05 would have generated as much buzz if technology had NOT advanced any since 1994, or conversely, how much buzz the 94 would have generated had today's technology existed back then.

Wow, this is suprising, because for some reason in my area they were flying off the lots! I bought a Dark red GT, but in the winter the heat blew ice cold air for about 20 mins ! now that I look at the 05's it is about 20x's as crazy as it was back in 94.

I still had my black'86 GT when the 94's came out. I didn't like them at first. Took some time to grow on me.
The first 94 I saw on the street was a black GT. I remember reading about the weight issues and how the cars weren't as fast as the foxes.

my first car was an 80 Mustang and my second was an 86 so when the 94s came out I was a little dissapointed because I loved the fox-bodies, but thats because thats what I was raised on!
The 80 was a hand me down from my brother--didnt have an enigine my father and I dropped a 2.3turbo in it which I blew--so we then put a 2.3 non-turbo into it. He was pissed but he wasnt because my older brothers were moved out so he got to spend all the time fixing the car with me so it was pretty sweet---some great bonding moments. He even named the car the blue bomber. I think he liked that car more than me!
Thats pretty much why I didnt like the 94s it was like watching my childhood and times with my dad end!

I agree. I was only 5 at the time and remember my parents (not car people) and our neighbors all talking about the new '65 Mustang. I know collectors now refer to the first ones as '64-1/2s, but at the time I recall them being referred to as '65s. And I remember my jaw dropping when our neighbors had friends pull up in a new '65 GT convertible!

I don't remember any buzz about the '94 at all in my neck of the woods.
