I'll throw my 2 cents in here regarding the next Cobra. Ford has honed the image of the Cobra more as a road race car than a drag car in my view (IRS, etc). They've even gone to great lengths to point out the great handling and other non-drag strip oriented features.
So, in my view, I think that we'll see a basic 5.4 block based motor but possibly with other dimensions (destroked possibly?) to change the displacement OR, a simple grab and go version of the GT or Lightning motor detuned and with different heads/cam etc to make it not so easy to plug and play to the HP of the GT.
To put 4V heads on the 5.4 and make it fit in the engine compartment would take some enormous feat of engineering, so we may not see a DOHC arrangement. Just a guess, but that's all we're doing here anyhow.

My perception of Ford and the Mustang/SVT derivative over the last 10 years is that they never release all the goodies at once. They give themselves room to add to an initial offering over a span of a few years. That way they keep the car "fresh" without having to make major changes. Moving up to the larger 5.4 and keeping it N/A at first fits this type of strategy. They would be able to add a S/C the second or third year and not have to make other changes to the Cobra.
Of course, this is only my OPINION.

considering that makes up all of the vehicles they sell I would say yes(the 04 SVTF stopped production in Feb 04). 100% usually indicates a commonality. Not to mention that the Harley Davidson truck next year will also use the engine.
Kevins right about the dry sump. Although its more expensive, it take a lot of height off of the engine. Just crawl under your car and measure how much deeper the sump is than the rest of the pan. I would guess 4-5 inches. Does anyone really believe Ford would spend all that time and money to make 3000 engines?
And as far as detuning it, thats a snap. Drop the boost to 6#'s and presto, your detuned. Love is just a pulley change away.

There's no doubt in my mind the GT motor in some form will go into the Lightning, but not the Cobra (in S/C 5.4L form).
BTW, did the 2000 R have a dry sump? Just curious.
Here's a pic with the 5.4L N/A in the 2000 R. They already put a hood with a bulge on it just to clear the intake. Now imagine a S/C on that!

I just don't see it happening.

So, with a hood buldge it could be possible. Also, remember there is nothing but space down in what was once the lifter galley, so you could drop the blower/intake even lower.
