Ok so the good news is my car is locked into production for the week of June 6th. So I have been getting things ready, the loan, trying to sell my car or at least make it look good for a trade-in, and today I decided to call and get some insurance quotes. First I will say that I have been in two accidents but neither of them were my fault at all. Second I did get a ticket back when I first got my liscence and just about 8 months ago got another ticket although it was entirely BS, for "peeling out", or at least that's what the cop wrote down. Anyway so the first, and turned out to be the last, company I called was Geico. I was going to try all the big names but after this I'm going to have to rethink things. My insurance now is like $2,400 a year on my 2004 Mustang V6. So the guy quoted me at $4,102.20, which I thought was a pretty decent increase but then I realized that was the 6 MONTH PAYMENT!!!:shock::shock: ARE YOU KIDDING ME, THERE IS NO WAY IN heck I'M PAYING OVER $8,000 A YEAR FOR CAR INSURANCE. I mean I could have most of the car payed off in three years at that rate. Ok so my question is for any of you younger drivers out there with a new 05 GT. I'm a 19 year old male so I know it's goinga be high but I know there are others out there my age with this car and I can't believe anyone is paying that much. So I would like to know how old you are, I guess I'd prefer less than 25 since that seems to be when insurance companies let it go down, what insurance company you have and what kind of coverage, and also whether or not it's on your own policy or like if it is with multiple cars or on a parents policy. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the high quote. Staying on your parents plan and get good grades and any other deductions you can take.

I don't want to get into exact numbers but I don't pay too much. Just search around with a lot of companies. It’s worth moving your entire families plan if another company has a better price. There’s no such thing as loyalty. There is no best company really, just search around doesn’t matter what others get, it’s what you get.

Also, check these threads out:

Can you please take the caps lock off your title? No need to scream.

Geico blows. They quoted me someting like $3000 for 6 months when I bought my 05 GT. I have a clean record and this would have been my 4th Stang GT. I told them to kiss my hiney and thanks for the 50% or more quote. I called a few others, most of which we're "reasonable" but decided on sticking with my current provider, USAA. I'm 27 and single and pay close to $2000 a year. I know it stinks but there is nothing lower than that for me in Florida. Not to mention I am FULLY covered.

A few years ago, when I was looking to move out on my own (I was 22), I shopped around quite a bit. And I found that State Farm had considerably lower rates than anyone else. Their rate for me with 1 ticket was lower than rates I was quoted from other companies with NO tickets.

Having renters insurance through them also helps quite a bit. In fact the discount I recieved for on my auto insurance was MORE than I paid for Renter's. So the total bill for renter's and auto was less that just auto.

Also, if you used to be on the honor roll but aren't going to school anymore, they will sometimes still give you the good student discount.

darn bro that insurance quote is crazy. Try Erie Insurance because they have had great rates in the past. They are very picky about who they take though. I'm assuming when you say the accidents were not your fault that means no claim was made by you or the other party on your insurance? If a claim was made and it was considered a "no fault" it still messes with your insurance rating but not as much as an at fault.

I feel your pain and you may just have to forgo the Mustang idea. Same thing happened to me back in the day when i wanted to purchase a fox body. Insurance company wanted to rape me so i got a pick-up instead. $4k a year is too much....$8k is just robbery.

Make sure you shop around. When I was getting my quotes, I was quoted $1400 every 6 months by my current insurance company and I have a clean record. I called someone else and was quoted about $600 for 6 months. Don't get too discouraged, call around first.

Erie wouldn't insure me because the mustangs are "high risk vehicles". :notnice:

BTW, I'm 32 without any violations or claims in 14 years.

I've been with State Farm for a long time, and will stay with them.

you may think your tickets were not much but they all add up and now that you want a new "muscle car" you are going to pay out the ying-yang for it. So, if I got this right, and if you got your license as soon as you turned 16, within 3 years you got 2 tickets, and had 2 accidents. You say they were not your fault but the insurance company doesn't care who's fault it was. The 1 ticket you told us about was for "peeling out", also known as reckless driving. So yes, your insurance is going to be very high seeing as you have 4 "notes" on your insurance record. I gotta agree, that does stink. However, the first and only ticket I got when I was 16 was for doing a burnout. My insurance doubled when I went to renew it the next year. Insurance companies just look at your age and infractions.

Edit: and the car you want to buy.

I have a 05 GT, I'm 22 with a perfect driving record and i pay $2800 a year with State Farm. Its actually less than my 2000 F350. Give State Farm a try.

I must agree with adrenalin - the insurance companies are not concerned only with fault; the simple fact that you were involved in an accident raises your risk to them.

Same with the tix - if you got convicted, it is a done deal.

I do sympathize with your situation. When I was 17, I had a '69 Mustang (see my sig). Man, that car was FUN. It also nearly cost me my license. It took fifteen years of four cylinder Fox Mustangs to clean things up.

I also work with State Farm now. In my book, they're the best of the major insurers.

35 here. I have 3 cars insured and my breakdown for the 05 GT is $1000.00 a year with Progressive. I have 3 points for no fault accident on my record. 2 claims for vandalism on my previous cars.

Give them a call.
