Hey Folks,

Thanks to everyone for all the REALLY GREAT INFO!!!!!

I've got my 05 Windveil Blue Stang on order.
Dealer states allotment of 12.
A "best price" dealership with 3 Cobra's, 2-3 40th Ann. Ed. and about ~20-30 cars
on the lot, so I tend to believe the 12...

They had one 40th Ann. Ed. in the showroom with aftermarket electric sunroof.
Looked sharp, but no keys were available and power was cut off so I couldn't
check headroom and visual with roof closed...

Does anyone have any design info on the 05 and any reasons why they
don't/won't offer a sunroof as a standard option on these cars?

The cheaper ZX2's come with a sunroof, wife has one...

Don't quite know why they wouldn't offer one except for the structural issues...
i.e. violates the passenger roll cage - minimum crush lbf is reduced????

Any ideas?

Thanks!

SCS

P.S. Can anyone chop the front view of the Windveil Blue with a "pop-up" sunroof?
[ My RX7, many years ago had a lift-out sunroof, velco tie-downs in trunk... ]

LOL ... sounds like the dealer close to me -- they still have several rows of '03 and '04 Cobras. If they weren't such slimeballs I might consider buying my '05 from them. As it is I found a very friendly dealer 50 miles away... good thing is they also do reasonable business. They've still got '04 Cobras for invoice, including a mystichrome coupe.

Ok people, now don't get nasty with the quantity of cars... ;-)

Does anyone ever believe a car salesmen (person...)... grain of salt, always!

Kevin: You've stated some believeable numbers and info...
Whats your guess on allotment?

I'm looking for feedback on sunroofs! OK?

If this rendering is correct, then there is room for a decent sunroof, provided you don't mind it overhanging the rear window...

Thanks HairyCanary!

Thats just what I (engineer-EE/ME) need to determine the structural issues.....

Based on what I see, no issue with big sunroof unless they have
put smaller cross members in there and expect those small cross
braces to "spread" the forces across to other sides of the square...

The curvature of the brace from down in bottom front windshield
to up toward the top front windshield and on back might be a specific
design to be able to support the weight in a roll-over....
Without FEM I can't say for sure....???

The dealer sales person I talked with stated that they have someone
come out (mobile) and put these in in their shop so they can control
the quality... I'm thinking that with any problems I can bring it back
to them and they will take care of it...leaks... Finer points will be ironed
out before pickup/install...

HairyCanary: You sure thats a new 05 layout? Where'd you find it?

Thanks again!

Yes, 05 layout due to the back triangular window design...

The other comment about overhanging the rear window...

I'm looking at a "pop-up" design only, no sliding backward design...

I want to remove it and put it in the trunk, so the size that fits in the
trunk may determine the maximum size I can put in...

Nope, did not order the 1000...

V6 Mustang Coupe "Premium"
120A Order code
18G Interior Upgrade Package
14A Anti-theft System
552 Anti-lock Brakes/Traction (optional)
43A Side-Mounted Air Bags
P3 Windveil Blue
J2 Light Graphite Leather

From what I've read, the Shaker 500 doesn't have the big
speakers in the trunk.... Hear/see anything different?

just remember that if you do ever get a sunroof,,,,,,it will eventualy leak if you plan on keeping the car 10+!

I had to seal mine up (welded and painted) cause it was costing too much to change the striping and crank,,,,,also small signs of rust were appearing.

Im not saying all sunroofs leak,,,,,,im just saying chances are with time, it will eventualy.

The sunroof on my 82 beater rusted shut a decade or so back (it used to be my mom's) when some idiots stole it for a joyride and left it open in the rain. It worked at first afterwards, so the insurance refued to cover it. A year later it was stuck closed. I have the haynes manual though. If I can find a donor car, I'll try and fix it.

Anyway, Sunroofs are great, but yeah, after a bit they start to be more of a hassle when it comes to rain. I bet, though, if it wasn't left out in the rain, that the sunroof would still work. Nissan is just great that way (Do NOT bash imports because of this post - I will flame anyone who does like there is no tomorrow).

I printed my inventory a few times here We expect around 11'ish will be the alottment. We do get lots of special favors from ford though. We may actually get 10 hybrids this year, which is double what we were "supposed" to get. After the inital mustang release, It will be business as usuall and we will probably have 70-100 constantly on order by mid-fall.

Allotment numbers....

The dealership appears to be "normal size" for being in suburb of large midwestern city..

Based on Kevin's numbers of quantity and his place getting about 12, they I'd have to say this dealership may be 1/4 or 1/3 of that which puts them in the 2-3 category...
Somehow, the size of this dealership says they will get more then the 2....
We'll have to wait and see on this...

Sunroof leaking....
Rusting I can believe if they make the saw cut and don't prime/paint the edge.
Even the best silicone will probably not stand the test of time in those conditions,
heat/cold cycles and then expansion/contraction of the joints...

Maybe I have them assure that they prime and paint the edges after cutting and
assure they have a very good brand of silicone and put down a good bead....

If dealership takes the responsibility, then I should at least get the 3 year guarantee
that I can take it back and have them fix it during that time.... But after 3 (?) years
I'm on my own and probably wouldn't want to pull it out and reseal/recauk....

Good Feedback!!!

Any other ideas/suggestions/gotca's???

Another possibility for the sunroof is to go with a panel made from convertible-type roof material. No overhang, as the sunroof will fold up into panels. The drawback is of course, that there is no glass to see through.

I am not a fan of aftermarket sunroofs... if you are in the rust belt, the paint will start bubbling after a few winters.

I personally would get a sunroof if it was a factory option, because I don't want some guy with a sawzall doing renovations on my new car.

If you are in the southern US just spend the extra money and get the ragtop... sounds like much more fun IMO.
