At that price for paint, I only can conjure up 2 names:

Earl Scheib
Maaco

Would anyone trust those names on their brand new 25-30k Mustang...I sure wouldn't

Eh, I have a paint and body shop owner in the family. He restores old Mustangs for his personal enjoyment. He's handling the resto on my 68 Camaro.

Anyways I'm gonna let him stripe my Mustang, he'll do a good job and will treat me right on price.

I just don't like the vinyl.

Uh-oh... better... watch your back for Burt Reynolds!

He'll hunt you down, man... Maaco commercials are about the only thing he's got left in his career.

Price sounded very low to me too. Of course, the vinyl cost seemed very high. For the paint, I was expecting something around 1-1.5k. I'll be checking out his work before I take my car to him, as well as some other shops.

Remember when comparing prices, different areas of the country can produce a very wide range of costs. The majority of paint and body work is labor intensive and a shop in the sticks pays their eimployees a lot less than a shop in the city. Rent, labor and general cost of living makes for different prices. A quote of $400 in Georgia could be the equivalent of $800 in California.

Will painting stripes void any type of warranty on the car?

My salesman said the vinyl stripes wouldn't...provided you didn't do anything crazy to put
them on.

Vinyl is lame  I don't think so. Put it this way, I can stripe a car using vinyl and not void my warranty. If you get your striped painted on by anyone other than ford you just voided your paint/rust warranty. Remember they need to clear coat all panels that they paint stripes on. You think they are lame, explain why all cars, including mustangs that have stripes these days, such as the MACH 1 are all VINYL!!!!

Hard to say. A guy I work with has a 1970 BOSS, orginal paint and the stripes on it are original Vinyl from the factory.

Oh good, a vinyl stripe thread again! Why would anyone paint and have the OEM paintjob ruined when vinyl goes right on - can fade - and then be so easily replaced down the road... painting is nuts in modern day America (unless the factory ONLY does it so that the app. is integrated with production).

Vinyl stripes are $200 for a full length, double wide like the Ford Racer below. I run autothing.com, so I can attest to that price -- if you PAY someone to put them on, then yeah, prices start around $400 for a so-so job (I would tip the guy an extra $50-$100 to do the tricks he wouldn't do for $400, know what I mean?)

I noticed on Ford's racer they put the rocker stripes at an angle, but they SHOULD be larger towards the rear, IMO. They look good, but you can see the angle is off from the front to the back (a bit).

I am bouncing around between Ash Gold (the car's original color), A Navy Blue Metallic, or a deep red like Ferrari uses.

I think I am leaning heavily towards the Ash Gold with the Bumble Bee Stripe around the nose. As far as I can tell from research on the car thats the way it left the factory and I kinda like the old school look.
