Have a 2005 gt I put a new sound system from Alpine in it my question is can I put a newer steering wheel that has the controls in the steering wheel. I want the old steering wheel look with new technology capabilities. Any suggestions?

There are a bunch of threads on this I believe.
Look up the 12 BOSS or 12 GT500 wheel installs.

I installed the 12 GT500 wheel in my 05 and it has all the buttons for audio.
I believe you can use the aux connector on the clockspring to utlize the buttons for the new radio. Takes a bit of work and splicing wires.

All I have right now is the cruise (left hand side) spliced in.

The new wheel is cheap from Tousley and DEFINATELY worth looking into. I love that wheel.

We also have a detailed installation of the GT500 steering wheel to the oem shaker radios and navigation heads. Search (steering wheel audio mods).

Check with Alpine (or your manual) and see if your head is capable of doing this feature. If the head doesn't recognize steering wheel controls, you won't be able to do it, even with the special connector box. You could just wire steering wheel up correctly, to make sure it is 100% operable and then add the proper radio brand connector kit. Then wire your Alpine radio harness into your Ford harness.

Ford radio's have to be programmed to use steering wheel controls, but the aftermarket stereos are totally another game to me. Wire it up and check it. Easy to do. Follow Data's link to the page. Good luck.
